Rotary is an international service organization of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders and problem solvers working to make our communities and the world a better place. We’re a group of local professionals & residents that meet weekly to build a stronger Hastings community through the strong principles of Rotary International. Our diverse membership includes those from local businesses, govern

ment, education, healthcare, media and nonprofits among other organizations. A few of our other activities of significant local impact by the club include:

*Raised in excess of $500,000 to build this beautiful pavilion(pictured on our cover page) as the foundation to the Hastings riverfront redevelopment.

*Refurbished the Vermillion Falls river bridge and adopted the bike path system throughout Hastings and provides all of the signage.

*Provide high school seniors with awards for Student of the Month.

*Established and operates Hastings Rivertown Fishing. Each year this program takes hundreds of seniors, veterans and the disabled in our community out on the Saint Croix river for fishing and boating excursions.

*Hastings Area Rotary Club is an affiliate of Cycling Without Age, an international nonprofit organization based in Denmark. Cycling Without Age-Hastings Rotary promotes the dream of providing elderly citizens the opportunity to experience our City and trails from the seat of a tricycle, sharing their stories and feeling the wind in their hair.

Thank you to Robin Bernardy for taking the time to come to Rotary to tell us about two options for public transportation.

There is Transitlink that is run by the Met Council serving much of Dakota County without regular bus service. It runs Monday through Friday 6am-7pm
You can book up to a week in advance by calling 651-602-5465
This service is to go outside of Hastings and is 3.50 per ride.

But wait, there is more!

Need a ride in town?
There is a Pilot program that helps people of all ages that runs
Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am - 2pm called “transitlink on demand”.
Think of it like a Shared ride program within city limits, but this is only a dollar a ride.

Our friend, Rachel Allgor from Journey Audiology & Hearing Care was at Rotary this week after her new office ribbon cutting last Thursday. She is now in (what we locals call) the Old library on Vermillion.
"At Journey Audiology, we believe better hearing should be accessible, comfortable, and centered around you. Whether you’re visiting our clinic, connecting through telehealth, or receiving care in your own home, we’re here to meet your needs with flexibility and compassion."
We learned that your ears number 1 job is balance!
We also learned that paying attention to your hearing may help with cognitive abilities.

If you have someone in your life going HUH? You need to call into Journey Audiology!

Hastings Rotary Club “Student of the Month” Award – April, 2026

Congratulations Delaney Smith!

On behalf of the Hastings Rotary Club and Hastings High School,
congratulations on being selected as the April 2026 recipient of the Hastings Rotary “Student of the Month” Award. The Hastings Rotary Club recognizes Hastings High School seniors who exemplify
Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self’, as a way to reward and foster these ideals, and also build mutually rewarding relationships between school administration, staff, students, parents and the
Rotary members.
You were nominated by Ms. Peacock-Hale. Here is what she had to say:
Since I began working here, Delaney has been one of the most welcoming and inclusive students I’ve had the
pleasure of working with. She consistently makes not only me, but every student who participates in Native
Group, feel valued and supported. I’m not sure there is anyone she hasn’t been able to form a genuine
friendship or connection with. Delaney has a remarkable ability to make people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests feel like they belong.
She brings warmth and positivity into every space she enters, often putting a smile on someone’s face without
even realizing the impact she’s having. That kind of kindness is both rare and deeply genuine.
She eagerly steps up to every opportunity to help or represent our group in a positive way. Delaney truly
embodies the Seven Generations teachings we are learning about in group, demonstrating respect,
responsibility, and care for others in both her words and actions.
While I’m sad to only have this year with her, I am incredibly excited to see where her journey takes her after
Hastings. Our school community is lucky to have her, and I can think of no one more deserving of this
recognition.
You were selected as “Student of the Month” based upon the Student Selection Criterion:
The student selected should demonstrate some or all of the following attributes:
● Gets involved in various school or other service related groups
● Takes a leadership role among their peers
● Diligently works to ensure success for themselves and others
● Exemplifies the Rotary four-way test: “Of the things we think, say or do…
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
