Today, we celebrate the United States Coast Guard’s 236th birthday!

On Aug. 4, 1790, the Revenue Cutter Service—now known as the U.S. Coast Guard—was created by Congress at the request of Alexander Hamilton. Today, the Coast Guard is the oldest continuously operating maritime service in the country and has been involved in every major American conflict since its founding.

To our Coast Guardsmen: Semper Paratus. We honor and celebrate you today and every day. Thank you for your service.

Women Veterans Day (also known as Women Veterans Recognition Day) is observed annually on June 12. It commemorates the anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, signed by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948, which officially enabled women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
