Did you know Delaware has two arboretums? Arboretums are composed areas of trees and shrubs for the purpose of education and to serve as a living museum.

The first arboretum is a majority of the academic side of the Ohio Wesleyan Unuversity campus. The second is Oak Grove Cemetery. Both have a variety of trees both native and non-native. They are open and free to the public.

On this Arbor Day, if you can't plant a tree today, go visit one of these spaces and experience the trees.

Please join us for Paragraphs for Patriots!

Members of our chapter have worked over the last couple years to find and document the grave sites of the many Revolutionary War Patriots who settled in Delaware County and established the city.

On Saturday, May 9, join us and the City of Delaware Parks & Rec department for a tour of patriot graves in Oak Grove Cemetery. Along the walking tour, you will learn about the patriots and their contributions to the city through readings of paragraphs written by our members.

The event starts at 10 am, is free and open to the public.

Pesach (Passover) begins this evening at sundown. The seven day holiday is celebrated to remember the breaking of the bonds of enslavement by the Hebrews. The seder is held on the first night and is a meal marked by a retelling of the events in Exodus. Each part of the seder plate is a physical reminder of the enslavement in Egypt and the plagues that enabled the Hebrews' freedom.

May all who celebrate have a blessed Pesach.

March 29 is National Vietnam War Veteran's Day. It is a day to remember and honor those who served during the US involvement in Vietnam 1965-1973. The date was chosen to commemorate the day the last US combat troops left South Vietnam and the last prisoners of war were released in 1973.

May we continue to remember and honor those who served.

Vietnam Wars facts:
๐ŸŽ–๏ธ20 years in length (1955-1975)
๐ŸŽ–๏ธ3 million Americans served during the war; 1.5 million saw combat
๐ŸŽ–๏ธ58,821 US casualties
๐ŸŽ–๏ธAverage age of US troops: 23
๐ŸŽ–๏ธConscription ended in 1973 due to fallout from the war

Pictured below is the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall in Washington, DC. It includes the names of 58,321 Americans who died during the war.

The first cherry trees were planted around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C., on this day in 1912. The trees were a gift of friendship from the Japanese to the United States.

The National Park Service has spent the last couple years on a project to help reduce the inundation of salt water into the Tidal Basin and protect the cherry trees. Late last month, 250 trees arrived from Japan. These trees are to commemorate America's 250th birthday and replace trees that were removed in 2024 as part of the Tidal Basin work.
