Fabio was abandoned outside with no survival skills. Left to starve at only 1.5 years old. He was found in a garden bed with rubber mulch and today he had to have a piece of mulch removed from his stomach after he nearly died. Fabio deserved a chance to live. The next cat who needs us does too.

Just after his very first meet-and-greet with potential adopters, Fabio suddenly became sick. At first, we hoped it was something minor—nerves, carsickness, maybe even a little stage fright. But day after day, he got worse instead of better.

We rushed him from vet visit to vet visit, determined to find answers. Blood work, X-rays, scans, medications—we did everything we could think of as Fabio’s condition continued to decline. With every test came another bill, and with every passing day we grew more worried that we were running out of time.

The most frustrating part was that nothing showed up. Multiple X-rays and scans failed to reveal the cause of his illness. Yet Fabio kept deteriorating. Finally, his veterinarian recommended exploratory surgery. It was a difficult and expensive decision, but there was no question what we would do. Fabio deserved every chance to live.

That surgery saved his life.

The veterinary team discovered a blockage in his digestive tract. It appeared to be a small piece of rubber, possibly from the rubber mulch found in the garden where Fabio was living before he was rescued. Combined with a hairball from all those famous fluffy locks, it created the perfect storm. The blockage had likely been causing problems for weeks before Fabio’s condition became critical.

Thanks to attentive fosters who knew something wasn’t right, a dedicated veterinary team, and a determined AVAP team willing to keep fighting for answers, Fabio is alive today and expected to make a full recovery.

Now that Fabio is on the road to recovery, our emergency medical fund needs help recovering too.

His two-week fight for survival cost our rescue more than $5,000 in emergency veterinary care. We never hesitate when a cat’s life is on the line, but bills like these quickly drain the resources we rely on to save animals in crisis.

Chillest kitten ever!  Willet was was discovered in his Foster mom's Backyard trying to hide in a big tree.

 Several attempts were made to capture him.  In only one week, he has discovered love, snuggles, and now he is learning to play and is beginning to explore new adventures and becoming curious every day.

Doritos Loco
Meet this handsome black kitten with a playful personality and an overly affectionate side. He’s curious about everything around him and always ready to investigate a new toy, climb into a cozy spot, or follow his people around to see what’s going on.

This sweet boy has a fun mix of energy and cuddles. He loves to play and entertain himself, but he’s just as happy settling down beside you for pets and a nap once he’s tired out. His shiny black coat and bright eyes give him a striking look, but it’s his friendly, easygoing personality that really makes him special.

Okay final launch of the day...Kitten Season Sucks!

Kitten season is really a myth, in Texas we have kitten season all year round. BUT there is a *slight* period from April to August where our intake numbers soar to triple digits every month and it also coincides with our lowest adoption numbers. We have kittens come into our rescue with ringworm, intestinal parasites, fleas, upper respiratory infections, eye infections, broken limbs, (rarely) panleuk, and our favorite (sarcasm), unexplained diarrhea for weeks on end. Each of these situations requires medicine, supplements, supplies, vet visits, and most importantly, the invaluable time of our amazing volunteers. So when a rescuer says kitten season sucks, give them a hug, an iced coffee, and a bottle of fenbendazole.
