The ISB Remembers Lloyd Goldstein❤️🎵

The inspirational life of bassist, composer, educator, certified music practitioner, and our dear friend Lloyd Goldstein has come to an end. He was 69 years old.

Lloyd was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2025 and publicly shared his journey through chemotherapy and radiation treatments, always maintaining a positive outlook. His philosophy of making music emphasized preparation, mindfulness and connection to his audience. As Lloyed declared “How I play matters more than what I play.”

Lloyd was best known for his 21‑year career with the Florida Orchestra and his 18 years as an artist‑in‑residence and member of the Arts in Medicine team at Florida's Moffitt Cancer Center. There he was the first recipient of the Patti K. Halula Legacy Award in 2026 for his dedicated and compassionate service providing live therapeutic music for patients and their families.

Lloyd began playing the double bass in high school, inspired by a childhood dream of moving audiences emotionally through his music. He studied at the University of Miami under Dr. Lucas Drew, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in double bass performance. He also received diplomas in teaching and performance from the Institute François Rabbath. Lloyd was a frequent and popular presenter at ISB conventions and other national conferences.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Grace Bronson, who was his loving partner and caregiver throughout his illness. Lloyd's legacy will continue as an uplifting reminder of the power of music to provide connection and comfort in this world. We will never forget you, Lloyd!
