Earlier this summer, we shared a glimpse of Pedro’s story. Today, we want to share more.
 
When we celebrated Pedro being granted asylum after nearly ten years, we shared only a small part of what brought him to the United States and what it took to reach that moment.
 
Behind that outcome were years of legal representation, a dedicated pro bono partnership, and a client who continued moving forward while waiting for a decision that would shape his future.
 
Pedro’s story offers a closer look at what long term legal representation can mean for someone seeking safety and why sustaining this work matters.

Daniel* fled his home in East Africa after being targeted because of his political involvement and ethnicity. He had been imprisoned and tortured, and after his release, a friend who had been detained alongside him was later killed.
 
Returning home was not an option.
 
With support from HRI and a dedicated pro bono attorney, Daniel pursued asylum in the United States. Just last month, after years of uncertainty, his asylum was granted.
