On October 10th, Hagar’s Heart brought our community together in Dallas for "More Than a Movie" an afternoon dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging meaningful conversations, and deepening our understanding of domestic violence.

🎬 The event brought together an important panel discussion with individuals whose knowledge and experience help shape how we understand and respond to domestic violence.

Because domestic violence awareness is about more than recognizing the signs of abuse. It's about understanding the challenges survivors face, listening without judgment, and recognizing the role each of us can play in creating a community of support.

To our panelists: Jennifer Hargrave, Officer Deidra Frazier, Dr. Jessica Sanchez, Megan Valdez, and Mirjana Omericaj thank you for sharing your time, perspectives, and expertise.

To everyone who attended: Thank you for showing up, listening, asking questions, and being part of the conversation.

At Hagar’s Heart, we believe every survivor deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported. Events like More Than a Movie, help us carry that mission beyond the walls of our partner shelters and into our communities.

We are often asked, “Why doesn’t she just leave?”

Leaving can be the most dangerous time for her and can often end fatally. At Genesis, we understand the nuances of abuse and stand ready to help her navigate options and resources while keeping her and her children safe.

If you or someone you know needs help, please call or text our confidential Helpline at 214.946.HELP. Our Helpline is available to those experiencing abuse as well as friends and family who are seeking support.

Please consider supporting the women and children who reach out to Genesis by donating today at www.genesisshelter.org/donate.
