When violence against women is dismissed as “an isolated incident,” patterns are ignored, warning signs are missed, and victims become statistics instead of people.

In our recent blog, Dawn Wilcox, founder of Women Count USA - Femicide Accountability Project, discusses the urgent need for comprehensive femicide data, survivor-centered storytelling, and accountability in how we recognize and respond to violence against women.

The question “What were you wearing?” has long been used to shift blame onto victims.

Featured at CCAW this year was the "What Were You Wearing" exhibit, a powerful installation that recreates the clothing survivors wore at the time of their assault and pairs them with personal stories.

During conference, our podcast host, Maria MacMullin sat down with Dr. Mary Simmerling, survivor, poet, and co-curator whose poem helped inspire the exhibit, and Dr. Denise Huskins Quinn, survivor, advocate, and co-curator whose own story is featured in the installation.

Together, they discussed the harm of victim blaming and the importance of making survivors’ stories visible. 🎧 Listen to the full episode: https://bit.ly/43qMYSr

Just because the relationship ended doesn't mean the abuse has.

Post-separation abuse is a frequently misunderstood and under-recognized form of ongoing coercive control that continues after a relationship has ended.

On June 17th, join Sybil Cu**in, Clinical Director and Supervisor at Arvada Therapy Solutions, LLC, for a virtual training built for those walking alongside families navigating ongoing coercive control after separation.

Gun violence has become an issue that many of us think about everywhere we go.

Today, we join Everytown for Gun Safety and people across the country in wearing orange to honor the lives of people in affected by gun violence and support advocates who are demanding an end to gun violence by taking action. 🧡

Wear Orange began in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, who was shot and killed in Chicago just one week after marching in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. Her friends chose to wear orange, the color hunters wear to protect themselves and others, to honor her life and raise awareness about gun violence.

Since then, "Wear Orange" has become a national movement focused on honoring victims, supporting survivors, and advocating for safer communities.

In Popcast’s recent interview with Olivia Rodrigo, Olivia spoke about the criticism she received for wearing babydoll dresses and the larger issue of how young women and girls are sexualized.

Rodrigo shared that while she has worn revealing outfits on stage without backlash, a fully covered dress that some people viewed as “childlike” was labeled inappropriate. She pushed back on the idea that women should be responsible for how men choose to perceive them.

The conversation highlights a larger issue surrounding victim blaming, sexualization and the way women are often held accountable for men’s actions. Clothing never indicates consent, and women and girls should never be blamed for someone else’s sexualization of them.
