The Shapes of Gratitude
Gratitude is often associated with noticing the good things in our lives and giving thanks for them. But Christian gratitude asks something more of us. It begins with recognizing that much of what has shaped our lives came to us as a gift. We have received faith, wisdom, courage, love, community, and grace from God and from people who have walked beside us and before us. Gratitude invites us to remember those gifts, to honor those who have given of themselves, and to recognize the sacred worth of lives that might otherwise be forgotten. It does not ask us to ignore grief, suffering, or injustice. Instead, gratitude helps us recognize what is precious and calls us to respond faithfully.
