During the Spring 2026 semester, I worked as an intern at Green Camps under the mentorship of Danny Sudman. Throughout the internship, I was in charge of outreach and digital media. My main responsibilities were creating engaging graphics, posting and responding to messages, and meeting with various camp professionals about the Green Camps mission.
This experience was special for me, especially since it was also my first internship. I learned a lot about how work operates at a non-profit, but I also learned a lot about the way I operate and work, and came away from the internship having learned a lot about myself that I wouldn’t have otherwise.
I learned a lot about professional communication, including how to express my ideas clearly to a variety of audiences, whether in writing, verbally, or through graphics. I struggled at the beginning of the internship when I was still getting used to the frequent meetings, having to introduce myself and my work, and talking to professionals who were all much more knowledgeable than I was. I found myself adapting to these adversities over time, and I was surprised by how much more at ease and comfortable I became at communicating.
Over the course of the internship, I also learned about how to effectively plan surveys that appeal to a specific audience. One project I assisted Danny with was transforming the pre-existing “Needs Assessment” into a shorter, more accessible form so that camps would experience less friction when completing it. As part of this project, I spoke with various camp professionals to understand what would benefit them most from a survey like this. Through this, I learned they were looking for practical, cost-efficient solutions, especially those that could secure grants or reduce energy and water costs.
Overall, my internship with Green Camps taught me a great deal about what it means to work in a professional setting, how to communicate with specific audiences effectively, and about myself and the way I work. I am extremely grateful to EcoStudio and Green Camps for the opportunity to have this unique experience, and I could not have asked for a better first internship!
