🌈 2026 NKY Pride Parade Grand Marshal Announcement 🌈

Some people leave a mark. Katie Meyer left a whole parade.

Katie was there from the very beginning of NKY Pride. She went on to co-found the NKY Pride Center and, perhaps most iconically, she is the co-founder and the creative force behind the NKY Pride Parade.

The Parade was her brainchild and her passion project — and every single year, she brought color, energy, and pure magic to the streets of Covington on the first Sunday in June. The decision to add a parade and lean all the way into the "Sunday Funday" concept transformed our little festival into the celebration it is today. That was Katie. Stepping into her role as NKY Pride Parade Chair is her wife and our NKY Pride Center President, Dr. Bonnie Meyer.

In April, the City of Covington's Economic Development Department honored Katie with an Authenti-City Award. She knew about it before she passed and she was genuinely blown away that her community would recognize her for her work. We aren't sure why she was surprised. So much of what we all love about Covington — and honestly, this entire region — exists because of Katie Meyer's extraordinary ability to pull people together across every background and personality and get us all fired up and rowing in the same direction.

Katie Meyer was magic. We are all so much better for having had her impact, her creativity, her laughter, and her passion for vibrant cities and communities in our lives.

For all of these reasons and so many more, it is our great honor to announce the 2026 NKY Pride Parade Grand Marshal:

Here are some ways you can help us make NKY Pride 2026 our best year yet:

1️⃣ Attend our NKY Pride 2026 Planning Meeting THIS SUNDAY, May 17 from 1-2:30pm at the NKY Pride Center (230 W. Pike St.).

2️⃣ Join us for the NKY Pride Volunteer Day on Thursday, May 28 from 3-7pm, when we'll be cleaning up the Center and getting things prepared for NKY Pride.

We are excited to welcome you back for Northern Kentucky Pride's Main Stage on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

‼️Sign-ups will go live this weekend on Sunday, May 17, at noon. Please note that priority will be given to local entertainers who live and/or work in the area.

Additionally, all potential entertainers should understand that this is an event that is open to visitors of all ages and all performers must commit to representing themselves, their art, and our community in a way that reflects the NKY Pride Center's mission to "advance LGBTQ+ equity and inclusion efforts in the region by meeting the needs for community-based services and programs for [all] LGBTQ+ Northern Kentuckians." 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We are on track for the same incredible festival and parade NKY has celebrated in Covington for 16 years — and this year, our 17th annual, carries even more meaning.

There has been an outpouring of love to honor our dear Katie Meyer — the heart behind so much of what NKY Pride is, and the founder of our parade. We intend to celebrate her legacy in a way that reflects how much she meant to all of us. We'll come together as a community at our first meeting to discuss how we do that.

Hi friends, Dr. Bonnie Meyer here. I wanted to say here that I am /we are overwhelmed with gratitude from the love and support of our community these last two weeks. If you attended the benefit at Juniper's last night--thank you. The love and support showered upon Katie and me last night made my chest a teeny less hollow this morning. Katie Meyer was an incredible human. Sharing with our community here additional details for My Love's Celebration of Life.

Katie Meyer's Celebration of Life is this Sunday, May 3 from 5p-8p at Hotel Covington. If you are wondering how to dress--dress up! Katie wanted a party, let's send her out in style.

If you plan to attend, I suggest arriving early. Katie is beloved and we (family, friends, Hotel team) fully expect a large number of people to come out to celebrate her. We very well may exceed capacity on the Courtyard. There will be a tent in place due to a wedding over the weekend, but we hope the weather will hold up regardless. In case of rain, we will move to the Lightwell.

Katie passed very suddenly and unexpectedly. One thing she did make clear is that if she passed, she wanted her Celebration of Life to be at Hotel Covington because it's been such a big space for our love--from City Hall to the most epic pride party / celebration(s) year after year. So, we--her family--are making it happen with the incredible team at Hotel Covington. K and I had our first flirty text exchange when she worked at City Hall (pre-Hotel Cov) & I was preparing to teach in Oxford. I will share a bit about that story on Sunday in her eulogy 💘

Katie's impact was so far reaching. I heard a couple of amazing stories last night that I hadn't heard (re: her) & I had forgotten (re: me). We look forward to celebrating her most extraordinary life with you on Sunday.
