At the end of September, the residents of our Franklin Light & Power property gathered for their annual end of season BBQ. This is the fourth year of this community tradition, and each year we are excited to see such a terrific turnout of residents young and old! Once again there was music and games, raffle prizes and great food. One of the tenants even brought out their cotton candy machine to share some sweet treats with the crowd! In an apartment building, it’s easy to isolate in one’s own space. It takes bravery to knock on doors and meet the neighbors. Knowing even a few neighbors can eliminate loneliness, build positive connections, grow great relationships, and make people feel like they are part of community. Events like this bring friends and neighbors together to have fun and smile, which ultimately improves both the physical and mental health of all. With safe and affordable housing and community support, anything is possible for our residents!

Have you seen the most recent survey spotlighting how voters feel about housing in New Hampshire? Produced by ‘The Initiative for Housing Policy and Practice’ [IHPP], a focused program of Saint Anselm College, the poll surveyed more than 1,200 registered NH voters from around the state in late August of this year. Since the survey first launched in 2020, there have been some striking changes in the public’s perception of how to deal with the state’s housing challenges. Thanks to IHPP, we have shared some of the most noticeable below, but to see all of the results, visit:

Our staff recently visited one of our Concord properties and found this resident outside, carefully cleaning up any trash that he saw around the property. We thanked him for his initiative, and with his permission, wanted to share this terrific example of someone volunteering to make his community a better place. Little personal actions to do good can have a large impact on many. And having a clean and safe place to live encourages others to have pride in their places and spaces. Thanks to all of our residents who help make CATCH properties nice places to live!!

The best office teams are built on a foundation of hard work, respect, friendship and fun. CATCH Neighborhood Housing and our property management crew at Alliance Asset Management are committed to celebrating our staff’s hard work and dedication, so we make a point of stepping away from our desks once in a while to have some fun together! The world of affordable housing never slows down, and there are always housing applications to process, maintenance needs, current and future tenants to support, money to raise, property development deadlines, and new construction to build so New Hampshire can have enough homes to meet the needs of our communities. A couple of weeks ago, we closed the offices for the day and left all the work behind so we could enjoy some sunshine, play some crazy World Cup games, and have a great lunch together. We couldn’t do what we do without the dedication and expertise of our staff and we always appreciate these fun times!

In addition to creating new opportunities for safe and affordable housing, CATCH neighborhood Housing also devotes substantial resources every year to updating and improving its existing properties. In fact, if you were strolling in the neighborhoods of downtown Concord this spring, you may have seen all of the new fencing, railings and stairs for the eleven units of our Perley Place property! Functional? Yes. Pretty? Absolutely yes! Keeping up with regularly scheduled maintenance like this keeps our properties in their best shape, so our tenants can enjoy both their interior AND exterior living spaces all year round! 🏡

Recently, staff and board members representing CATCH Neighborhood Housing and our property management group Alliance Asset Management participated in the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s 38th annual ‘Funds for Education’ golf tournament! Funds raised through this tourney support capital area education and leadership education initiatives for local students and youth. It was a great day on course under bluebird skies, and our board and staff always appreciate the opportunity to help give back to the community!

Yesterday, at a meeting of Concord Rotarians, CATCH Neighborhood Housing President & CEO Tom Furtado had the opportunity to question Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander about the proposed bipartisan federal legislation she is co-sponsoring known as the “Build Housing Affordably Act,” which would temporarily pause, investigate and likely reform the complex and often expensive BABA (Build America, Buy America) requirements currently associated with affordable housing construction projects that use any government funding. As they currently exist, BABA compliance requirements often add costs, cause extensive supply delays, and substantially slow down the construction of affordable housing. With New Hampshire’s current affordable housing needs, we appreciate all those who are asking the tough questions!
