A huge congratulations and thank you to our Training Director, Jon Webb, for his hard work in applying for and securing this grant for the IBEW Local 490 JATC!

This funding will allow us to modernize training equipment, improve educational resources, and help remove barriers for first-year apprentices.

At a time when skilled tradespeople are needed more than ever, investing in apprenticeship programs is an investment in our future. Careers in the skilled trades offer incredible opportunities to earn while you learn, develop valuable skills, and build a rewarding, family-sustaining career without taking on the burden of significant college debt.

Our communities depend on skilled tradespeople to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure we all rely on. Ensuring the next generation has access to quality training is essential to meeting that growing demand.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a Training Director who recognizes opportunities like this and puts in the work to make them happen.

Congratulations to JATC on receiving a Spring 2026 Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) Catalyst award to update aging training equipment and materials while removing barriers to entry for first-year apprentices in rural communities across the state.

By expanding access to high-quality training and apprenticeship opportunities, this project will help build a stronger skilled workforce, create pathways to good-paying careers, and support the long-term economic vitality of communities across the state.

Happy Labor Day from IBEW Local 490! 🇺🇸⚡

Today is more than a long weekend. It’s a day to recognize the working people who built our communities, keep them running, and continue to fight for a better future for the next generation.

The 8-hour workday. Weekends. Overtime pay. Workplace safety. Apprenticeships. Pensions and benefits. A voice on the job. These things didn’t simply happen, generations of working people stood together and fought for them.

At IBEW Local 490, we’re proud to carry that tradition forward. We’re proud of the skilled men and women who go to work every day, build our communities, support their families, train the next generation, and prove what can be accomplished when workers have a voice.

Labor Day belongs to every worker and it reminds us that the progress won by those who came before us is worth protecting and building upon.

Your Voice Matters, Especially in a Primary

Civic participation doesn’t begin and end with the November election. Primary elections are an important part of our democratic process because they help determine which candidates will ultimately appear on the general election ballot.

Elections can have very concrete consequences for the working class.

At the state level, elected officials can influence or determine things such as:
• Labor and collective-bargaining laws
• Prevailing wage and public construction
• Workplace safety
• Pay and benefits
• Pensions and retirement
• Unemployment insurance and workers' compensation
• Public infrastructure.. and so much more.

A lot of consequential labor policy isn't decided in presidential elections. State representatives, state senators, governors, executive councilors, members of Congress and other elected officials can all participate in decisions that eventually reach a worker's paycheck, jobsite, health plan, pension or training program.

Please research the best candidates that stand behind the working class and GO VOTE for them on Tuesday, September 8th at your local polling location.

⚡ Turning yesterday's landfill into tomorrow's energy.

IBEW Local 490 members, working with our signatory contractor E.S. Boulos, are proud to be powering a new solar field on a closed landfill in Concord, New Hampshire. This project will feature approximately 11,000 solar panels, transforming underutilized land into a source of clean, renewable energy for the community.

Through net metering, the energy produced will benefit the Concord School District, the City of Concord, Concord Housing, and State of New Hampshire offices, demonstrating how smart investments in infrastructure can strengthen public services while creating good-paying union jobs.

Projects like this showcase what IBEW electricians do every day: delivering safe, reliable, high-quality electrical work that powers our communities and supports New Hampshire's energy future.

We're proud of our members for bringing their skill, professionalism, and craftsmanship to another project that will serve Concord for years to come.
