Sowing Seeds into the Midlands Sowing Seeds into the Midlands provides a variety of critical support services to troubled and delinquent teens living in the South Carolina Midlands region.

The brainchild of former South Carolina juvenile probation officer Zakiya Esper, Sowing Seeds into the Midlands is a 501(c)3 organization that stands in the gap for youth who've been stigmatized by their involvement with the criminal justice system. Based in Columbia, South Carolina, Seeds offers programming for any youth who could benefit from positive influences through peer workshops and ongoing mentorship.

The kids are out of school, but that doesn't mean the learning stops. Join us for Oma's Lit Camp! 4 days of fun with reading, writing, art, and nature! This literacy camp will:

Last week we were able to support our friends over at at their annual advocacy day at the South Carolina State House with a few of our boys.

They were able to sit in the Black Caucus meeting and hear about issues in our community and what people were doing to advocate for them and how they can use their voice to advocate for themselves and others.

One of teens found interest throughout the whole day, saying that he didn't know he could tour the State House, sit in the House Gallery and see change happening all around him.

These young people want to experience. They want to be included. Let's continue showing them just what's possible 🌱

From the beginning, we have been committed to making a change in our community. Over 10 years later, and that hasn't changed! We're still active and did a bit of a refresh πŸ‘€. Stay tuned for some news on how you can get involved! 🌱

A couple of weeks ago we hosted Seeds Feeds 50, an initiative created to soften the blow of the disruption in SNAP benefits for the families we serve. Many teens who come into contact with the justice system are also navigating food insecurity, and our intersectional approach recognizes that hungry children and parents cannot be at their best.

Through simple word of mouth, texts and phone calls we were able to provide 17 grocery gift cards valued at $100 each, more than 60 plates, fresh collard greens and sweet potatoes to Midlands families of teens. We are grateful to Brookland Baptist Church Banquet & Conference Center and Farmasis for partnering with us to make this possible.

Thank you to our donors, organizers and the Seeds teens who showed up to make sure this got done.

We hope to do it again soon. We got us! 🌱
