We are very fortunate to have Dr. Alice Taylor-Colbert as our speaker at our Spring 2026 luncheon. Her presentation is sponsored by a generous grant from the South Carolina Humanities Speakers Bureau.
Dr. Taylor-Colbert will speak on “Cherokees in the Revolutionary Era: Diplomacy, Conflict, and Peace.” As some colonists began to fight for their independence, some Cherokee leaders advocated for neutrality, while others aligned with Great Britain. By exploring the divisions in the Cherokee Nation, Dr. Taylor-Colbert’s talk will deepen our understanding of the divisions between Loyalists and Patriots. Her talk will suggest that the disruption caused by the American Revolution extends beyond military battles and that the aftermath of the conflict illustrates the resilience of Indigenous survivors. Their creativity and adaptability can make peace, overcome challenges, and build new lives.
