MDC Boone County Private Land Conservationist Austin Dixon will be hosting a prescribed burn workshop field day for landowners coming up on Friday, October 2nd at the Soybean Association Property and there are still some open slots. The link to register is below! Once you register, you are required to complete an online portion (~1-3 hours) before the field day so don't wait until the last minute!

The Mid MO PBA completed its first burn of the year this past weekend, the landowner took advantage of lower humidity conditions to conduct a growing season burn on a couple portions of their property to slow woody growth, set back goldenrod and sericea, and promote wildflower diversity. Unwanted cheatgrass helped provide fuel for the fire to carry through and only a portion of field was done to leave plenty of habitat for wildlife this fall and winter! Upcoming field day opportunities to take the MDC Prescribed Burn Training for Landowners workshop. The first is being held on Friday August 21st in Callaway County, you can register at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/220036

Once registered, you'll be required to complete an online portion that will take 2-3 hours; this must be completed prior to the field day for course certification. This training meets the one time requirement for the Mid MO PBA, but can also be a good refresher if someone wants to take it again.

Additionally, there will be a field day for this training held in Boone County on Friday October 2nd (location TBD). We will send the link out to the group when it becomes available for folks to register. To complete this training, a person only needs to attend one field day, not both.

Kudos to two Mid MO PBA Executive Committee Members who assisted an out of state landowner with some fire needs a couple months back--we just received a generous donation to the PBA from this grateful landowner. Love it! 👊🔥👏

What a great Annual Meeting last night! The rain poured and then a gorgeous sunset; made all the better with old AND new friends! Welcome new FY27 members and let's give another round of applause to those members who purchased a lifetime membership! 👏 Let's also thank those who gave very generous donations--rock stars! 👊 For those who couldn't join us, give us a bit to catch up (whew!) and we'll send out an email with details for renewals and new memberships. Can't stress enough how important partnerships and their support are to this group--gigantic thanks to Missouri Soybeans Missouri Prescribed Fire Council Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever in Missouri NWTF-Missouri Conservation Federation of Missouri Mid Mo Uplanders Chapter of Quail Forever and Missouri Dept. of Conservation! 💪 And lastly, let's get this 🔥 party started--bring on FY27 and burn plans!

We are going to have a great crowd joining us for our Annual PBA meeting! Looking forward to meeting new folks and helping them improve their habitat! For those unable to attend, we are working on a new/updated member form (easy) and will be sending that out to the group after the meeting so those who are unable to attend can renew their dues.
