Alston Wilkes Society A nonprofit organization dedicated to serving offenders, former offenders, Veterans & at-risk youth

The Alston Wilkes Society is composed of four programs that work to build a safer community for us all. Those programs include: four Residential Reentry Centers, eight Community Service offices throughout South Carolina, a high-management youth home in Columbia, and two transitional facilities for homeless veterans and offices providing Supportive Services for Veteran Families. The Community Servi

ce Program carries on the original AWS mission assisting offenders, former offenders, family members and homeless individuals in rebuilding their lives as productive, law-abiding members of the community. Case management and coordination of services helps clients make a successful transition into society having a positive effect on crime reduction and prevention. This month, we are proud to recognize the Alston Wilkes Society as our featured Partner of the Month.

Guided by their mission, β€œRebuilding Lives for a Safer Community,” Alston Wilkes Society provides critical support to veterans and their families, individuals involved in the justice system, and at-risk youth and adults. Their work is grounded in person-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care, ensuring every individual is treated with fairness, and compassion.

Their commitment to meeting people where they are is what makes this partnership so meaningful. Together with Welvista, we are helping expand access to essential medications through the MAP -Medication Assistance Pharmacy at no cost, improving health outcomes and strengthening communities.

We are grateful for their ongoing impact and look forward to continuing to grow this important partnership.

We are so proud to have William as part of the AWS family. We celebrated him back in May when he received his award, but his story is inspiring even still. Check it out!

Today is World Bicycle Day.

While bicycles are often associated with recreation and exercise, for many individuals they represent something much bigger: transportation, independence, and opportunity.

According to a survey of South Carolina residents, nearly 20% of people who were able to work but not currently employed identified transportation as a barrier to employment.

Without reliable transportation, it can be difficult to get to work, attend job interviews, access healthcare, participate in treatment programs, or connect with supportive services.

At Alston Wilkes Society, we understand that rebuilding lives often begins by removing barriers. Through our services and programs, we help individuals overcome challenges that stand between them and a brighter future.

Sometimes the journey toward stability starts with a single step. Sometimes it starts with a ride.

🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day.

Today, we recognize both Global Day of Parents and International Children's Day.

Children thrive when they have stability, support, and caring adults in their lives.

Research consistently shows that children who grow up with stable family relationships and supportive environments are more likely to graduate from high school, maintain employment, avoid involvement with the justice system, and experience better physical and mental health outcomes throughout their lives.

At Alston Wilkes Society, we see every day how investing in individuals and families creates brighter futures for children. Whether through veteran services, housing support, workforce development, community-based programs, or reentry services, our work is ultimately about strengthening families and creating opportunities for the next generation.

When parents and caregivers have the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed, children are more likely to succeed too.

Today, we celebrate the parents, grandparents, guardians, caregivers, and mentors who help provide the stability, encouragement, and hope that children need to thrive.

Because stronger families help build stronger futures.

❀️ Happy Global Day of Parents and International Children's Day!

Today, we remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Memorial Day is also a reminder that many veterans continue carrying the physical and emotional weight of service long after returning home. Through housing assistance, case management, employment support, and veteran stabilization programs, Alston Wilkes Society is honored to walk alongside veterans and veteran families across South Carolina as they rebuild stability and hope.

One way we can honor the legacy of those who served is by continuing to care for those still walking the road home.

Tomorrow, our nation pauses to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

For many veterans and military families, Memorial Day is deeply personal. It is a day filled with reflection, remembrance, gratitude, and honor for those who never made it home.

At Alston Wilkes Society, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve veterans and veteran families throughout South Carolina every day of the year.

As we prepare to observe Memorial Day, we invite our community to remember, reflect, and honor the sacrifices made for our freedom.
