The city of Coeur d’Alene, Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations, and Human Rights Education Institute have scheduled a fundraiser to assist individuals impacted by the fires in northern Spokane.

Today our community SHOWED UP for the victims of the fire disasters in Spokane and the surrounding area. Volunteers worked tirelessly today to categorize and organize donations that were collected from late last week and the weekend.

A large load of pet products has already been delivered and we are working with our partners to give access to all that has been collected for the greatest need.

However, we need some helpers. We are not done yet. Displaced families have certain critical needs and will have other needs further along in their recovery journey. Our donation drive, in partnership with the City of Coeur dAlene and the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations runs through this Saturday, August 15, from 830am-530pm

If this is any indication in one to two days of what is yet to come, we will need several trucks to distribute goods to our nonprofit partners who are directly serving displaced families.

Please reach out to JLaster@HREI if you can assist in collecting, sorting or delivering this week.

Right now our greatest needs are:
*men’s and older boys clothing,
*all Toiletries, but especially men’s toiletries and shaving products, *backpacks, and school supplies,
*new towels and washcloths,
*new pillows, and new pillowcases, and bed linens,
*children’s books and children’s games and toys,
*non-perishable quick foods like pouches of rice, granola bars, canned meats, easy soups,
*laundry detergent and fabric softener in manageable sizes,
*microwavable plates, and sets of silverware (washable, not plastic), *luggage and plastic tubs and totes in all sizes for belongings to be stowed away in,
*technology, like power strip bars, extension cords, block chargers,
*play pens, and toddler mattresses,
*air mattresses, flashlights and mini lamps, packs of batteries.

New products or gently used are recommended for bedding and blankets. Looking for new shoes, all styles.

Please keep in mind that victims in these situations move around multiple times before they settle. They could be in an evacuation center, and then in a shelter and then a hotel or with family, and they need things to carry their items in. We also need expandable waterproof file folders that have the pockets and band around them to hold important papers.

Please do not bring partially used shampoo, bottles, or weight, loss, products, or ripped or torn clothing, and blankets. They do not have the means to repair clothing items. Many are working professionals and need clothes to continue to keep their jobs, and children are getting ready to start school.

We appreciate everyone that came to help today. You are all amazing and we are so grateful.
