"When the well is dry, we know the worth of water." — Benjamin Franklin

One of the most impactful quality-of-life aspects of Northern Idaho is our water. Rivers, lakes, streams, and wetlands bring a richness to our ecosystem that is unique and priceless.

What practices do you employ to conserve water?

Inspiring the next generation!

Eduation is the foundation of conservation, preservation, and restoration.

Each spring, hundreds of local fifth graders trade their classrooms for the outdoors at the Annual Water Festival held at McEuen Park in Coeur d'Alene.

Students rotate through hands-on environmental science stations led by volunteers from organizations including Kootenai Environmental Alliance, Trout Unlimited, Selkirk Conservation Alliance, Idaho Fish & Game, and the Friends of Tubbs Hill Foundation.

Activities include an interactive water cycle demonstration, a live native fish viewing with biologists, animal track identification with take-home stamp booklets, and a guided nature hike on Tubbs Hill focused on native plants and local geology.

A birds of prey demonstration during lunch gives students a close-up look at live raptors and their ecology. The festival immerses young people in the natural world right in their own backyard, fostering a lasting sense of environmental stewardship and conservation.

Thank you to all our partners who helped make this year a success!

If you would like to be a part in supporting this program, please consider becoming a KEA member, making a one-time or recurring donation, sponsoring the program directly, or volunteering to help next year

Our public lands and trails are our responsibility.

Our friends at the Idaho Trails Association have several opportunities to help clear and restore trails within the Panhandle. Options range from easy to more difficult, one day to many.

Make sure to check out their project schedule and get some trail work on your calendar. It's a great way to meet new people in beautiful surroundings while doing valuable work.

Happy Memorial Day.

We at KEA want to thank all of those who have sacrificed for the great privileges and freedoms we enjoy in the United States.

One of our most precious assets is the land. It's inspiring, nourishing, and priceless. We are grateful every day for the public lands of the United States that have been fought for and preserved over hundreds of years.

This is one of our most important fights for the continued quality of life for generations to come. Please consider joining KEA in this effort.
