The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030 only 78% of the global population will have basic handwashing facilities.

For rural communities in places like Burkina Faso, that gap can put families at serious risk. 🧼🌍

That is why illuminAid is here to help.

In partnership with Catholic Relief Services in Burkina Faso, illuminAid trained 18 local educators and CRS staff to create and share hygiene-focused videos on critical WASH practices.

With camera kits, cordless projectors, and recharge kits, local teams can bring lifesaving health information directly to remote communities — even where electricity and internet access are limited. 🎥

It can shift beliefs, change behaviors, and open new possibilities. 🎥

In northern Nigeria, a World Bank study found that aspirational video screenings reduced the number of out-of-school children by 42%. Parents’ attitudes also began to change, with higher aspirations for their children’s education and shifting norms around early marriage.

Through illuminAid’s partnership with Save the Children and World Vision, local teachers learned to create educational videos and share them with students using cordless projectors. 🎥

When girls have the tools to tell their own stories, they can help change the future of their communities. 🎥✨

In Paraguay, illuminAid partnered with Plan International to lead a four-day video production workshop focused on health, safety, and gender equality. Participants created short videos on issues like disease prevention and women’s rights, featuring local children and young women as the voices of change.

By producing videos in local dialects, with familiar faces and community-based stories, these messages can reach rural audiences in ways that feel trusted, relevant, and accessible.

This is what locally led media can do: help young women become creators, educators, and advocates for lasting change.

With simple equipment, local teams can create videos in their own language, using familiar voices, places, and examples. Those videos can be shown again and again in rural communities, even where electricity, internet, and literacy are limited.

A single video can help a farmer improve a harvest, a mother recognize a health risk, or a village adopt safer practices. More importantly, it leaves behind skills, tools, and knowledge that communities can continue using long after outside support has moved on. 🌍🎥

🌎🎥 In Guatemala, illuminaid partnered with Mercy Corps and WINGS to train local teams in video production and the use of cordless projectors to strengthen outreach around nutrition and family planning in indigenous communities facing high rates of chronic malnutrition. 🧼🎥 In Burkina Faso, illuminaid partnered with Catholic Relief Services to equip 18 local teachers and staff with hands-on training in video production focused on WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) education, helping strengthen community awareness around disease prevention. Through this workshop, participants learned to create and share locally produced videos promoting critical handwashing practices, supported by camera, projector, and recharge kits to continue storytelling in their own communities. 💡🌍
