Juneteenth commemorates the day enslaved people in Texas learned they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a celebration of freedom, but also a reminder that progress is rarely instant.

That is why Juneteenth remains so important. It reminds us that freedom is not simply a historical event. It is an ongoing commitment to building communities where people are seen, valued, and able to pursue their full potential.

In observance of Juneteenth, our offices and locations will be closed Friday, June 19. Please contact staff with any questions or for additional information.

“When dads are involved with their kids, whole communities benefit,”

Our latest blog on the Brightpoint Beacon provides a sneak peek of our upcoming father-child fishing event in Bloomington next weekend. It also explores the research on why it’s so important to create opportunities for dads and father figures to connect with their children.

If you're a father or father figure in the Bloomington-Normal area, there's still time to join us for this year's event on Saturday, June 27. To sign up and learn more, visit https://www.brightpoint.org/beacon/hooked-on-fatherhood-fishing-event-promotes-dad-specific-fun/

This event is hosted in partnership with the McLean County Fatherhood Coalition and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

“I don’t like to ask for help, and Brightpoint and the Schubert staff make me feel like part of their community where there isn’t a limit on how much help I can ask for.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Breaking Barriers luncheon, and to our sponsors for helping make the event possible.

With Heidi Stevens as our emcee, we highlighted the impact of our Community Hub at Schubert Elementary and the difference on-site support can make for children and families.

We’re grateful for everyone who helped us bring this work to life. And thanks to photographer Heidi Zeiger for capturing the impactful afternoon. 💜

Summer is a season of sunshine, celebrations and time spent together. But for many families, it can also bring added challenges as children are home more and daily routines shift.

Our work continues year-round, connecting children and families with resources that help them navigate life’s challenges and build stability.

If you or someone you know is looking for support this summer, we’re here to help.

What happens when fathers find a community where they can show up as their authentic selves?

Our latest blog highlights the graduation of Brightpoint's Alternative Lifestyle Dads Group, where LGBTQIA+ fathers and father figures come together to build relationships, learn from one another and support each other through life's challenges and successes.

"I gained that without an expectation, which gives it so much more value to me." — Whusheane Perry

Congratulations to the graduates of the fourth and fifth cohorts. We are proud to celebrate this milestone and the community you've built together.

As part of his Bar Mitzvah project, Noah Gruber chose to support the Mitzi Freidheim Child & Family Center by sharing his love of basketball. Alongside his family, friends and teammates, he spent an afternoon playing and connecting with more than 60 children.

The Gruber family also donated basketballs for every child to take home, along with hoops and games that will continue bringing joy to children for years to come.

Thank you, Noah, Adam, Jodi and Eli, for creating such a meaningful experience and showing the power of giving back to your community. 🏀💜

For more than a decade, Bank of America has been a valued partner in helping us support children and families. 💜

We are grateful for their recent donation of 10 boxes of handmade blankets for our Child Welfare Services program. Since 2012, Bank of America has stood alongside us in our mission, and we deeply appreciate their continued generosity and commitment to the communities we serve.

Here’s a Monday morning palate cleanser for you.

Meet Marcus, one of the recent graduates from our Alternative Lifestyles Dads Group, a fatherhood support group for LGBTQIA+ dads and father figures. Marcus was asked to sing a song for the group and he did not disappoint.

You’re going to want to turn the volume up. Trust us on this one ✨

“They’re the first people I call. I call them because I know they’re going to be present — for me as well as for other families.”

That’s what happens when support is available where families already are.

Our latest blog highlights the impact of the Brightpoint Community Hub at Schubert Elementary, in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side, where families can access resources, such as clothing, job assistance and mental health counseling, right at their child’s school.

Many of the parents who turn to our hub for help are immigrant mothers who simply want a better life for their children. We’re so grateful for them sharing their stories.

Read their stories of courage and resilience. All photos by Alyssa Schukar for Brightpoint.
