The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is a medical specialty organization of physicians, surgeons

The Society’s membership, totaling more than 2,000, is primarily comprised of gynecologic oncologists, as well as other related medical specialists including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and pathologists. SGO members provide multidisciplinary cancer treatment including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery and supportive care.

Most ovarian cancers begin in the fallopian tubes—but research shows that salpingectomy, a procedure that removes the fallopian tubes, can reduce a person's risk of ovarian cancer by as much as 78%.

To help ob-gyns provide preventive care to their patients, we now recommend that ob-gyns discuss salpingectomy with patients who are undergoing surgeries, such as hysterectomy or tubal sterilization. Talk with your ob-gyn if you have questions about reducing your risk of ovarian cancer.

Treating endometrial cancer may require thinking beyond the cancer itself.

A new SGO/SAGES -- The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons clinical practice statement encourages integrating obesity management into care for patients with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) and endometrial cancer.
🔹Start conversations about obesity and metabolic health early.
🔹Consider referral options at diagnosis when appropriate.
🔹Explore evidence-based interventions, including lifestyle changes, medications, endoscopic therapies, and metabolic and bariatric surgery.
🔹Make obesity management part of care from diagnosis through survivorship.
