In a late-night vote, SB 3777, also known as the Civil Rights Safeguard Act, passed the Illinois General Assembly and will be on its way to Governor Pritzker's desk for his signature. This is an incredible victory for Illinois and would not have been possible had it not been for the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the sponsors of the bill Senator Adriane Johnson and State Representative Justin Slaughter, as well as the rest of the Disparate Impact Coalition.

This amendment to the Illinois Human Rights Act will safeguard civil rights protections for Illinoisans where discrimination laws apply and solidify the clear standard in Illinois law that employers and businesses have been using for more than 50 years.

And with your help, WE did it! Thank YOU for lending your support by taking action.

Stop. Listen. Do you hear that? It's the sound of advocacy in action. The sound of press conferences about the need for living wages for all. The sound of victory as a bill that safeguards Civil Rights was voted out of committee and moved to the Senate floor. The sounds of joy and celebration from supporters helping us harness The Power of WE to ensure that women have the resources and pathways to thrive. And much, much more.

Our annual luncheon, The Working Lunch, is much more than a fundraiser. It’s the opportunity to sit in a room full of people who believe that women’s lives should be better. To celebrate leaders and organizations who have dedicated their careers to building women’s economic power. And to hear from the women whose lives and careers have been transformed by The Power of WE.

This year, two testimonial speakers took the stage and shared what it looks like when someone invests in women, and what’s still at stake when we don’t.

Last week, the Civil Rights Safeguard Act (SB 3777) passed the Illinois Senate! 🎉But we're not done yet.

📢 WITNESS SLIPS ARE NEEDED: https://bit.ly/3S23wgU

TOMORROW Wednesday (5/26) at 2:00 p.m. CT, the Illinois House Immigration & Human Rights Committee is hearing testimony on the Civil Rights Safeguard Act, SB3777, and we need your support! SB3777 will safeguard civil rights protections for Illinoisans where discrimination laws apply by solidifying the disparate impact standard.

Disparate impact recognizes that policies that seem neutral can be discriminatory in practice and effect, if they impose an unjustified disproportionate harm on protected groups. This law would preserve protections for:

- Survivors of domestic and sexual violence who are disproportionately women.
- Black and Brown homeowners and customers who face barriers from redlining.
- Immigrants and naturalized citizens who face barriers to language access.
And many others!

Take 3 minutes to file a witness slip and make your voice heard TODAY: https://bit.ly/3S23wgU

Women are driving the growth of America’s workforce, but the pay gap hasn’t caught up.

The 75 Million's new research report, Women Are Leading The Next Decade of Job Growth, finds that 58% of the projected fastest-growing occupations through 2034 are led by women. Women are shaping the future of work, yet they’re still earning an average of just 85 cents on the dollar.

Progress shouldn’t come with a pay cut.

Thank you to Senator Adriane Johnson for her persistent leadership and to the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the agency responsible for enforcing the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA). This amendment to the IHRA will safeguard civil rights protections for Illinoisans where discrimination laws apply. This bill codifies disparate impact into Illinois law, solidifying the clear standard that employers and businesses have been using for more than 50 years - even while the federal administration continues to dismantle disparate impact and our overall civil rights protections.

Women Employed is proud to support this bill as a member of the Disparate Impact coalition.

Follow us for updates and opportunities to act as the bill moves to the Illinois House.

Our annual fundraiser, , was nothing short of incredible, and it was all because of YOU. Your presence, your energy, and most of all, your support, made our event a huge success and helps us harness the to drive change, and transform lives and futures.

It was an honor to recognize our Trailblazer: Jaquie Algee, and Champions: Kathy Bolhous and the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Office of Economic Equity and Empowerment (OE3). A special thank you to our testimonial speakers, Yumahara Garcia Cajero and Arella Swan . And we appreciate our special guest, Whitney Reynolds, for guiding everyone through a powerful pay equity exercise―proving why this critical work is necessary.
