While our Women’s Philanthropy Mission could not make it to Israel this year, we are grateful to have had the opportunity to gather locally at the Ark. The women spent meaningful time connecting with one another, learning about the Ark’s impactful work and mission, and participating together in a mitzvah project in the pantry. Thank you to the Ark for hosting us!

After a whirlwind adventure in Vienna, Nachshon 22 traveled home to Israel. It was particularly special to be in Israel when we were as Ran Gvili, the last remaining hostage, had been recovered and returned just days before our arrival. There was a distinct atmosphere of relief and hope, and we were so thrilled to celebrate with our Israeli brothers and sisters. Swipe through to see some trip highlights:

1. Enjoying a moment of pause and reflection at The Kotel.
2. Got a taste of what it’s like to be on a battlefield at Caliber 3.
3. We were joined by geopolitical and security expert, Jonathan Conricus, who gave us a briefing at a lookout point in Southern Israel.
4. & 5. Another great round of Dine-Around-Dinners.
6.- 8. Ringing in Shabbat on the beach with drums and live musicians.
9. One last group pic in Tel Aviv. Until next year!

Last week, JUF’s Annual Men’s Mission, Nachshon, traveled to Vienna and Israel for the trip’s 22nd anniversary. The trip began in Vienna, where we learned about the city’s special connection to the origins of Zionism and what Jewish life is like for the community today. Notably, we had the honor of meeting with Israel’s Ambassador to Austria, David Roet. A visit to the historic Gerstner confectionary salon and enjoying the city’s lauded culinary scene rounded out our time there. Swipe through to see some of the memories made, and stay tuned for details on our Israel experience.

1. The group in front of the Hofburg Palace, the former principal imperial palace of the Habsburg and where Adolf Hi**er announced the annexation of Austria.
2. Enjoying some of the great restaurants Vienna has to offer during a Dine-Around-Dinner.
3. Meeting with Israel’s Ambassador to Austria, David Roet. Among his many diplomatic posts, Ambassador Roet is the former Deputy Consul General to the Midwest.
4. Poignantly, we visited the Theodor Herzl Stiege (stairs) which is named after the founder of modern Zionism. Herzl live in Vienna for over 25 years.
5. Another great night out!

Last week, law enforcement professionals from communities across Metro Chicago traveled to Israel, visiting key sites including the new Police Academy in Beit Shemesh and the Shin Bet training facility. They also climbed Masada and floated in the Dead Sea! This trip strengthened collaboration, created meaningful opportunities for Israeli and Chicagoland police to learn from one another, and deepened our officers’ understanding of Israel’s security landscape and culture. We are grateful for the strong, enduring partnership between law enforcement and the Jewish community.

Just days after the remaining living hostages were released, the JUF VIP Solidarity Mission to Israel hit the ground running. This group of next generation leaders engaged in meaningful dialogue—hearing firsthand accounts of October 7 and exploring what’s next for Israel. A trip highlight was meeting with Yossi Cohen, former Director of the Mossad (see last slide). Am Yisrael Chai!

The Achva Women’s Solidarity Mission to Israel returned home yesterday from a life-changing trip, forming bonds of sisterhood that will never be broken. We met with former hostages fighting for their loved one’s return; toured Kibbutz Nir Oz, bearing witness to the horrific destruction that occurred; volunteered in the fields to pick potatoes and feed families in need; met with a wounded soldier at Hadassah hospital, who survived not one but two injuries in Gaza, and is focusing now on his recovery and upcoming fall nuptials. Amidst the pain and ongoing impact of October 7, we reveled in the resiliency of the country that simply will not be stopped.

We celebrate Shabbat this week with a newfound sisterhood, peace, and resolve to support our Israeli family 🇮🇱
