We at Chicago Dancers United are devastated and heartbroken seeing the impact COVID-19 is having on our entire dance community. This is an unprecedented time with mandated closures, stay-at-home orders, and a great deal of uncertainty. Many in our dance community have suffered as a result, with direct impact on individuals’ physical health, mental health, and financial security. Our heart goes out to all artists at this most challenging time.

If you are a dance professional who has contracted COVID-19 and have related medical expenses due to this critical health issue, The Dancers’ Fund may be able to help. Apply today at chicagodancersunited.org/thedancersfund

At this time, The Dancers’ Fund is unable to provide support for dance professionals who personally have no underlying critical health diagnosis but are otherwise financially impacted by the COVID-19 cancellations and closures*, however, there are other organizations and state agencies that can help. For more information please visit chicagodancersunited.org

While CDU wishes it could be of assistance in this broader framework, administering the Fund in an equitable and sustainable manner to applicants who have no underlying health condition is simply not feasible, and would be inconsistent with our mission and the purpose for which these funds were raised. The Fund was created to provide short-term financial assistance to Chicago based dance professionals diagnosed with a critical health need.

The Fund was created in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the dance community as a way to help ease the financial hardship for individuals diagnosed with the disease. Since then, The Fund has expanded to assist members of the dance community who are dealing with similar needs associated with their critical health diagnoses or conditions, including but not limited to cancer, lupus, mental health, etc.
