Summer is running with Team Lurie Children’s in the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in memory of her son, Jett as well as all other kids and parents that have to face unimaginable challenges. Jett was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and aggressive childhood brain tumor, and received treatment through a clinical trial at Lurie Children’s. Throughout this training block and on race day, Summer will run to honor Jett’s legacy and carry forward his message to always “Fight Like Jett.”

Community Spotlight: Willie’s Warriors 💙

When a child is in the hospital, care extends to the entire family. For Jeanette and family, their three months in the Lurie Children’s NICU meant exceptional care for baby Wilhelmina “Willie,” while a care team of doctors, nurses, Child Life specialists, chaplains, social workers, and more surrounded her older siblings and parents with support.

Today, they find healing through a beautiful legacy of giving in Willie’s memory, honored each year through their Celebration of Life fundraiser.

Join Willie's Warriors at their next Celebration of Life Fundraiser, with 100% of proceeds going directly back to the NICU to help other families receive that same extraordinary care.

In March, showed how a community can come together to lift up children and families when it matters most through the power of gaming.

Because of the incredible generosity and heart of attendees, volunteers, patient families, and organizers, $40,000 was raised in total for Extra Life Chicago and Extra Life Wisconsin in support of Lurie Children’s and Children's Wisconsin at this year's convention.

What began on the convention floor is now making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families across Illinois and Wisconsin, helping provide care, comfort, and hope when it is needed most.

Thank you, AdeptiCon, for showing what is possible when a community turns passion into purpose. And a special thank you to Hank and Matt for creating something that is changing lives in such a meaningful way.

As we wrap up the school year and head into summer, we want to take a moment to thank the 23 schools, 7 Lurie Children’s departments, and businesses that joined forces to make Superhero Day a huge success!

Superhero Day is not just a costume party – it's a chance to be a real-life hero for children battling illnesses. Together, we raised $20,000 for our patients. Every dollar raised brings comfort, care and hope to the young superheroes fighting at Lurie Children’s.

Elisabeth is running with Team Lurie Children’s in the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in honor of her friend, Megan Sporny, who was a patient at Lurie Children’s while she was battling a brain tumor. Despite her tumor taking away her ability to walk, Megan continued to stay active with the Lurie Children’s team even helping her get a racing chair. Because Elisabeth and Megan grew up running together, participating in this event felt like the perfect way for Elisabeth to honor Megan’s legacy.
