ift work to keep this community strong. CATALYTIC LEADERSHIP. We are community leaders who are actively solving some of the most entrenched challenges in Central Virginia. We know when it's time to step in. Our board includes leadership-level representation from large corporations, small businesses, education, financial institutions, social services, the technology sector, media, healthcare, philanthropists, and more. By bringing diverse leaders together, we get things done. DYNAMIC GRANTMAKING. We grant funding to a fabric of ideas that create big impact. Grants are made to programs that successfully address our priority goals in these Impact Areas:

EARLY EDUCATION & SCHOOL READINESS: Our United Way seeks to make our community a place where children grow up health and arrive at school prepared to succeed. MAKING WORK PAY & SELF-SUFFICIENCY: Our United Way supports individuals and families working to become financially stable and economically independent. STRATEGIC HEALTH PARTNERSHIPS & COMMUNITY HEALTH: Our United Way strives to build a community where people are healthy and have access to needed care.

The cost of full-day, year-round care for an infant in our community rivals, if not exceeds, undergraduate tuition at most Virginia public universities. As a result, too many working families are forced to choose between earning a living and having reliable childcare. Through our ever-expanding early childcare and education work, we aim to tackle these challenges through a collaborative approach with providers, employers, local governments, educators, and more.
