Five governors united last week in opposition to NextEra’s proposed acquisition of Dominion Energy, arguing the deal could impact rates and infrastructure improvements.

The state leaders, representing Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island expressed concerns about both companies stating, "NextEra has chosen to spend its considerable resources to disrupt needed infrastructure development in New England while Dominion has used its resources to lobby for out-of-market payments under the threat of retirement, which could have had dramatic impacts on the region’s resource adequacy."

NextEra's proposed acquisition of Dominion Energy would create the world's largest regulated electric utility. But leaders of five New England states say the merger could hurt ratepayers and impact infrastructure development in the region.

The proposed NextEra-Dominion acquisition is a stark reminder of why Virginia needs campaign finance reform, now more than ever. When billions of dollars and one of the largest corporate takeovers in state history are on the line, Virginians deserve representatives accountable to people — not wealthy corporations.

Clean Virginia has consistently advocated for comprehensive campaign finance reform — including a ban on corporate contributions as well as contribution limits on all other donors, Clean Virginia i…

An unprecedented utility takeover + a growing groundwater crisis = time for a special session.

Virginia can't afford to wait.

Today Richard H. Stuart & I asked Governor of Virginia to call a Special Session so the can act on the alarming groundwater report released last week. The report lays bare that our drinking water & the health of our Eastern aquifers are under critical threat. We need to act now. At the same time, unchecked data center growth and the pending Dominion-NextEra merger only add to the urgency of protecting Virginia families now, not next year.

Dominion’s average residential bill increased from $149.92 to a projected $180 — roughly 20% — in the last year. If NextEra takes over, that number will continue climbing.

Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg for Virginia said it best, "Our electricity bills are already too high. They shouldn’t go higher to boost corporate profits when better solutions are readily available."

Virginia families are already facing soaring electricity bills, and the proposed NextEra-Dominion merger would make matters worse by shifting control of Virginia’s electric grid to an out-of-state corporation while allowing

As the NextEra-Dominion acquisition proposal moves forward, more voices are joining the call for answers. From elected officials to advocates, Virginians are asking the same question: what will this $67 billion deal mean for our communities, our energy bills, and our future?

A bipartisan group of elected officials are speaking out against the review process surrounding the proposed Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy merger.

A Virginia nonprofit says Dominion Energy’s proposed merger with a Florida-based utility provider cannot move forward due to a lack of key information, such as consumer impacts.

🚨 Floridians are warning Virginia: don't make the same mistake.

The proposed NextEra–Dominion merger comes with promises of short-term bill credits, but customers in Florida say they've seen what happens after the headlines fade: repeated rate increases and a utility with outsized political influence.

Read this firsthand perspective from a Florida resident who’s living with the consequences of NextEra's decisions.

As Virginia regulators consider NextEra Energy's $67 billion takeover of Dominion Energy, Floridians warn that the utility giant's record of rate hikes, mass disconnections, political controversies and shareholder litigation deserves

The NextEra-Dominion merger would result in the largest utility monopoly in the country, and Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi is asking all the right questions — 64 to be exact — about how it would impact the people living, working, and raising families in the Commonwealth.

In a letter sent to the State Corporation Commission this week, Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi urged the commissioners to more closely scrutinize the planned merger of Dominion Energy, the commonwealth’s largest electric utility provider, and Florida-based NextEra Energy. If the merger materializes, it w...
