Love in ACTion was a success.

Thank you to everyone who came out, got their hands dirty, and helped us make our community cleaner, greener, and more welcoming. Together, we planted a community vegetable garden - creating not just a space for growth, but a symbol of nourishment, wellness, and collective care.

This is more than a one-time event. Love in ACTion is happening every month! We’re committed to building stronger communities through service, connection, and meaningful action.

Second chances deserve real opportunities.

Join us on April 15 from 9–11 AM at CitySpace for the Second Chance & Re-Entry Job Fair, where justice-involved individuals can connect directly with fair-chance employers offering interviews and on-the-spot opportunities.

In addition to employment connections, participants will also have access to:
• Resume support
• Community resources
• Expungement assistance

This event is made possible through collaboration between community partners committed to opening doors and creating pathways to stability, employment, and long-term success.

If you or someone you know is looking for a fresh start, this is a great place to begin.

Completion is discipline.
Opportunity is earned.

Proud of these men in Uhuru’s Keys to Love program for graduating from the City of Charlottesville’s Ready to Work program. Through our partnership with VA Career Works and the office of economic development, each earned guaranteed interviews with partner employers.

This is what happens when housing meets structure, accountability, and belief.

The work continues.

Last month, Alphonso Washington officially completed The Uhuru Foundation’s Keys to Love Supportive Housing Program. After spending 25 years incarcerated, Alphonso came to Uhuru ready to rebuild his life. Through consistent mentoring, stable housing, and his own determination, he’s now living independently, working full-time, and writing a brand-new chapter of freedom.

“It feels good to be working, paying bills, and living a normal life.” — Alphonso

Alphonso’s story is proof that when housing, mentorship, and workforce opportunities come together, people don’t just reenter society — they reclaim their future.

Join us in celebrating Alphonso’s completion and all those who are walking the same path toward transformation.

“Honored to join Sleep Out C’Ville as a panelist to discuss Charlottesville’s displacement crisis and the critical need for sustainable solutions. Housing insecurity is deeply connected to reentry and substance abuse recovery—without stable housing, the cycle of incarceration and addiction becomes even harder to break. At The Uhuru Foundation, we are committed to addressing these challenges through community-driven initiatives, strategic partnerships, and long-term solutions. Together, we can create lasting change. ”
