Throwback Thursday: Med Korner Edition!

This morning, we celebrated the official ribbon cutting of our new Med Korner at Camp!

Our new state-of-the-art medical facility was designed to expand and enhance the 24/7 medical care available at Camp and includes an accessible elevator, an expanded 24/7 pharmacy following hospital-grade standards, additional treatment rooms for confidential care and hands-on teaching, accessible bathrooms for campers and staff with mobility challenges, a dedicated sensory room, and educational and administrative spaces to support medical volunteers and student learning.

Today, we’re celebrating this exciting new chapter while throwing it back to where it all began and how far Med Korner has come!

It’s National Dog Day!

CHT wants to give a special shout-out to Bella's Buddies, Inc. for bringing their wonderful Golden Retriever service dogs out to Camp this summer!

Our campers enjoyed spending time with these awesome dogs and finding moments of connection and calm with our four-legged friends in the middle of a busy week at Camp. Research shows that interacting with animals can help lower cortisol, reduce feelings of loneliness, increase social support, and boost mood.

Tradition Tuesday: Camp Olympics!

Each summer, CHT celebrates Camp Olympics, where our campers come together for some good-spirited competition and fun! It’s a day filled with games, camaraderie, creativity, and it's a little piece of our Camp Magic.

A special thank you to Grace from Graceful Perceptions LLC for coming out to Camp and donating her time and talent to capture some of these fun moments!

Grace believes photographs are a unique way of pausing time. As an artist, dedicated disability advocate, and Best of Charlottesville Family Photographer, she has built her business around the belief that every individual and family deserves to have their legacy captured with dignity, patience, and beauty.

Kinda chic to have the best Summer Leadership Team possible.

As our Summer Camp Leadership Team returns to their post-Camp lives, we want to give a BIG shout-out to Cooper, Elle, Caroline, Matt, and Phil for holding down Summer Camp through the long hours, unexpected changes, endless questions, last-minute pivots, walkie-talkie calls, and all the organized chaos that comes with a summer at Camp.

Thank you for everything you did to make Summer 2026 one to remember!

At CHT, there are many trails that lead to Camp. This summer, we welcomed Harry as one of our UVA Marketing Interns. When his required internship hours ended, Harry chose to stay for two more weeks to help gather content and finish the summer season with us. He ended his summer with loud cheers and hollers from our campers and counselors as he received a CHT Special Paper Plate Award for his positive attitude, time spent with campers, and willingness to share his equipment and talents to help capture the CHT story. But perhaps Harry’s greatest contribution was the perspective he gained from being part of Camp. Our Camp Family is full of superheroes, and YOU are one of them! Thank you for being part of CHT all year long.

Behind every gooey s’more, every adrenaline-filled challenge course, and every friendship bracelet woven between new friends is a dedicated medical team and a community of supporters who make safe, medically supportive camp experiences possible. Together, you ensure that every camper can focus on being a kid, not their diagnosis.

This year marked CHT’s 52nd summer camp season, thanks to supporters like you who make exceptional care possible.

Have you been interested in learning more about CHT? Or maybe you're looking for a way for your child AND yourself to stay connected with others navigating various medical conditions? The Camp Holiday Trails Program Team invites you to join us on Thursday, August 27th at our Dining Hall at 6:30pm for a time to meet our team, hear more about Community Groups and connect with other families going through similar life situations. This is a time to build community outside of the summer for both youth ages 6-17 yrs old and their parent/caregivers.
