"Despite a couple of late-winter storms impacting foot traffic, our retail members and their customers tell us they remain cautiously optimistic, even as they continue to navigate ongoing economic uncertainty," said Andrea Copeland, president and CEO of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce. "While it's too early to call these results a trend, it's encouraging to see positive movement across the region."

The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce says all of its localities saw increases in retail sales tax collections for the first quarter of 2026.

We’re headed to Chapel Hill next week for our Chamber2Chamber exchange with the Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro and we couldn’t be more excited! 

We’ll be traveling with a delegation of 35 regional leaders who are looking forward to the walking tours, which include downtown small business and tourism, urban design and development, Northside, and the UNC campus.
