Calling all Virginia W**emakers & Cidermakers...it's that time again to mark your calendar to enter your w**es and c***rs in the 2027 Governor's Cup Competition!

Now in its 45th year, this competition has recognized the highest quality w**es Virginia has to offer. Entries will be accepted from October 26th until November 20, 2026.

The Mission of the Governor's Cup® Competition is to promote diversity and commercial availability of Virginia w**es from all regions. Entries are required to be 100% Virginia w**es and c***rs, (meaning fruit, w**e, concentrates and fortifiers must be 100% Virginia grown and 100% of mead's base agricultural product, honey, must be from Virginia), vintage 2018 or younger.
Again this year: A maximum of six entries is allowed per w**ery.

The additional panel of judges exclusively for c***rs will continue in 2027. Judges more familiar with c***r will judge those entries.

All Virginia Farm W**ery licensees are encouraged to enter the competition!

A devastating frost is reshaping Virginia w**e

It's harvest season in Virginia w**e country, but visit some vineyards and you may notice a crucial element missing: the grapes. April's devastating freeze, which walloped the local apple season, is now reshaping what Virginia w**eries make — and what w**e lovers will eventually find in tasting rooms, shops and restaurants. Expect fewer bottles of some favorite whites, more blends and unusual w**es born out of necessity. Many w**eries have enough inventory from fruitful years to cushion the blow. The real squeeze could come later. A late-April hard freeze sent temperatures into the 20s across much of Virginia just as vulnerable vines were budding, causing widespread losses that resulted in a federal disaster declaration. Then came the drought.

Fewer grapes, pricier fruit and creative workarounds are reshaping 2026 w**es.

Alert to Industry Regarding ABC Reports: You may have received an email from Virginia ABC this morning requesting a report from when you were first issued your license and notifying you about their new system for online tax filing.

The new system is coming, but they are still working through the upgrades, and this email was sent in error. You can disregard the email. There is no need to submit an old report, and you do not need to register at this time. You will need to register once the new system is live.

Once the new system is ready, we’ll do a walkthrough to make sure everyone knows how to file their reports online.
