Last week, we lost Isaiah Shorter.

He was a student of ours and a member of our community. We got to know Isaiah through our incredible partner, the Exposure Project, another local nonprofit doing amazing work.

Through our programs, Isaiah built his own clothing brand, 2DAYZWRLD. He loved fashion and he loved creating, and he wanted everyone to have access to his designs and good quality shirts.

Generous, creative, driven.
That is who Isaiah was.

Thanks Charlotte Business Journal and Symone Graham for sharing the Sparkhouse story.

This is bigger than grants.

It’s about what happens when people believe in an idea before it’s fully built — and see the potential in the young people, entrepreneurs, creatives, and communities it is meant to serve.

Ally Charitable Foundation’s $500,000 investment in our Creative Studio will help young people access tools, technology, mentorship, and real production space to turn ideas into something real.

Novant Health’s $300,000 investment in Sparkhouse Coffee recognizes what we believe deeply: economic opportunity is connected to health. Jobs, income, purpose, confidence, and community all shape how people live and grow.

Do Greater started as a truck - a mobile classroom with iPads, laptops, and a big belief that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.

Now we’re preparing to open Sparkhouse Uptown: 20,000 square feet in the heart of Center City designed to help people work, learn, create, connect, and earn.

Grateful for Ally, Novant Health, Wells Fargo, Truist, the City of Charlotte, and every partner helping bring this vision to life.

The real work starts when the doors open.

Yesterday was a full-circle moment. 🧡

We had the privilege of giving our partners, who helped make this venture possible, a tour of SparkHouse Uptown and its progress.

After hearing more about the history and the future of this special building, they walked the same halls their support helped bring back to life and watched, in real time, as everything truly came together. ⚡️

We are so grateful!

And to the rest of our community… you won’t have to wait much longer!!

Come with us on a small business field trip to Camp North End! 🚐✨

We started at with Melisa, who shared how she launched her business, showed us some of her must-have products (beyond her incredible shoes), and gave our students real advice on how to start their own project. 👟

Next, we stopped by —a creative art space with a focus on mental health. Our kids asked thoughtful questions and opened up about their own stories. 🎨

Then they popped into Thrift Pony for a little shopping before heading to for ice cream 🍦

All in all? A great evening.
A few of our students even walked away with new opportunities through networking!! 🤝

It’s a beautiful thing to connect young entrepreneurs with successful small business owners so they can see exactly what’s possible. 💫
