Volunteer Spotlight: Layla Bluefort, MSW

From walking through the doors of Dress for Success Charlotte as a client seeking her first interview suit to becoming "Coach Lay," a social worker, educator, and Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Layla's journey has come full circle.

Since 2017, she has supported countless women through styling, professional development, wellness workshops, and reentry programming, always with the belief that empowerment begins when women are reminded of their value and potential.

"One of the things I love most about Dress for Success Charlotte is that it sees the whole woman. No matter the setting, the mission remains the same: helping women see possibilities for themselves that they may not have seen before."

This week, 43 women at Dress for Success Charlotte signed up to participate in our Pantry to Plate program. Each participant received a week’s worth of nutritious food, including fresh produce and pantry staples, and will come together virtually this evening for an interactive cooking class.
Empowering women goes beyond the workplace. It’s about providing the resources, knowledge, and support that help individuals and families thrive.

A huge thank you to Wells Fargo Women in Trading for visiting Dress for Success Charlotte earlier this month and completing a Done-in-a-Day volunteer project!

Done-in-a-Day projects are short-term volunteer opportunities that make a lasting impact. During their visit, the team dedicated their time and talents to helping us prepare resources and services that support women on their journey to economic independence.

Thank you for helping us further our mission and make a difference, one woman at a time!

Client Program: Pantry to Plate

Build confidence in the kitchen and make the most of your food with our Pantry to Plate Cooking Series. Learn to prepare simple, healthy meals, create multiple dishes from the same ingredients, build flavor with everyday items, and reduce food waste while stretching your budget.

Bonus: Participants will receive a 7-day food box with fresh ingredients used in class.

Both forms are required to receive the full experience and program benefits.
