🏡The Pierpont community has suffered its 2nd fatal fire in less than a week. The incidents being just over a mile from each other. Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors🎗️

Fire crews with the St. Andrews Fire Department and the Charleston Fire Department are actively responding to a residential structure fire on Thursday night.

St. Andrews and North Charleston Heavy Rescue Companies are assisting Charleston Engine 18 and Ladder 1 with structural shoring operation at a multi-family apartment building.

🔥Last night Battalion 301 responded to a warehouse fire in the 2700 Blk. of Spruill Ave. Battalion 301 arrived on scene as the 1st due Chief to a large warehouse with smoke showing and requested a 2nd alarm.

➡️Engine 305 responded on the 2nd alarm and was ordered to the roof to assist with vertical ventilation. Engine 305 cut multiple holes.

🗑️The Bees Ferry Landfill has had dozens of large fires since its opening in 1977. The most common incidents are small, usually consisting of heavy equipment fires (The equipment used to move and sort the trash).

Within the last year there’s been an increase in larger incidents such as the one earlier this week, January 2026, and September 2025. If you would like to know more about the investigation, you can contact the St. Andrews Fire Department Fire Marshall Division.

⬇️Common Causes

🪫Lithium-ion batteries are one of the most common culprits, capable of igniting when damaged, punctured, or exposed to pressure during compaction. These ignition sources are often hidden within loads and difficult to detect before they enter the facility.

🫆Other common causes include spontaneous combustion from organic waste, hot loads delivered to the site, and mechanical factors like equipment friction or overheating. Outside factors can also play a role, including high temperatures, lightning strikes, or unauthorized dumping of hazardous materials.

🚒St. Andrews Public Service District Fire Station No.4

Fire Station 4 is located at 1340 Bees Ferry Rd. (In front of the Bees Ferry Landfill) and houses Engine Company 304. Engine Company 304 is staffed with a minium of 3 personnel per shift (Captain, Engineer, and Firefighter).

Fire Station 4’s primary response district consists of the following neighborhoods: Red Top, Hunt Club, Marshfield, Bulow, Laura’s Oaks, Bolton’s Landing, Sanders, Bluewater Way, and Oak Plantation Camp Ground.
