There’s only one way to get experience: get experience.

Early in her coaching journey, LC Etheridge had a mentor give her some simple advice: if you want to become a better coach, you have to coach.

Training gives us a foundation. Coaches help us see what we can’t yet see. Feedback helps us improve.

And then we have to put it into practice.

LC talks about the mental shift she made early on: getting out there, coaching as much as possible, and then continuing to study what happened and learn from it.

After 12,000 hours of coaching, she has a lot of experience to draw from.

How is your vision of your future changing as time goes by? How can you "rightsize" your next step?

"I want a clear vision and a clear strategy. I want successors who value the vision, understand the strategy, and have the competence to carry it. I want people around me to become mature and resilient leaders. I want to write more, mentor more, and continue doing work that matters.

I am still ambitious.

What I'm increasingly willing to let go of is the goal of becoming known as impressive."

The problem may not have been that my vision was too big. The problem was that I assumed a big vision required a big goal.
