The ASPCA of Western North Carolina will distribute free Pet Food (dog and cat) on Wednesday, June 3rd from 11-2pm (or until supplies are exhausted) at Humane Society of Catawba County, 3224 20th Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602. Recipients will come to the front parking lot of HSCC’s Hickory shelter where they will be directed to pull up to the ASPCA truck. Recipients will remain in their vehicle. The only information recipients need to provide is what type of pet and number of animals they need to feed and their residence ZIP Code. No proof of need/paperwork/identification is required. The ASPCA staff, who will be masked and gloved, will place the food in the trunk/back seat/bed of vehicle as directed.

• We will be distributing 7 meals for each student who has been receiving meals prior to 5/4.

• Yellow Bus Pickup Throughout the Community: 10:30AM - 12:30PM, depending on the location

Effective March 17, 2020, any child with a parent/guardian can receive a free meal between 11 AM - 2 PM at any McDonald’s location.
The student must accompany the adult.
Meal options: Plain cheeseburger, plain hamburger, or 4 piece nugget with choice of one side (French fries, yogurt, apple slices)

For Newton Conover City Schools Students

Newton-Conover City Schools will provide meals for students during the days that schools are closed due to the current coronavirus situation.

Each elementary school in our district (North Newton, Shuford and South Newton) will be a distribution site. If your child attends the middle or high schools they will be provided meals through the elementary school district in which they live.

You may choose to have the meals delivered or you may drive to the elementary school site and pick up the meals. Students will be provided a breakfast and a dinner meal to be delivered at the same time.

The first day meals will be provided will be Thursday March 19th. If you would like to receive meals please respond to the link below or call the child nutrition department at 828-464-3191.

Meals will be available for pick up from 2:30 – 3:45 pm daily Monday – Friday

Meals will be delivered between 2:00 -4:00 pm daily Monday - Friday for those who chose that option.

For Hickory Public Schools

Students can get free meals at the following locations

Hickory Porch: HPS families with food insecurities. All you need to do is provide your child’s name and the school. Pick-up of food supplies on Tuesday, March 17, at the PORCH facility (the old Thrifty Lion store) in Longview. Each bag is valued at approximately $50 worth of groceries. Pick-up time for the HPS families is from 5:00 PM-6:30 PM.

PORCH IS IN NEED OF DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS! Donations from the community (non-perishables foods that are not out-of-date) may be dropped-off from 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM. BackPack Program/Student Participants (Elementary & Middle School Students): Food supplies will be available for all HPS elementary and middle school students who participate in the BackPack Program. The one-time pick-up (to cover the two weeks) is scheduled during the drive-thru at Longview Elementary and Viewmont Elementary on Thursday, March 19 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

MEALS PROVIDED by Hickory Public Schools —
BREAKFAST & LUNCH for HPS students with needs:

• Starting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, meals will be provided for any HPS student who is need of food assistance from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at either Longview Elementary or Viewmont Elementary.
• These meals are designed for ALL HPS students (pre-K-12) who have food insecurities.
• HPS is offering a drive-thru/pick-up for daily meals (during the school days, only) while school is closed.
• Longview Elementary and Viewmont Elementary will serve as the pick-up locations for meals for students. A team will be available to deliver the meals directly to your car. You will not need to come into the school.

For Catawba County Schools

To help support families during the school closure due to the coronavirus, CCS are committed to providing healthy and nutritious meals to any child 18 years and under for free. The district will be offering breakfast and lunch that can be picked up at the same time. Meals can be picked up at 14 locations.
Grab-n-Go meals will utilize a “drive-through” system where parents can drive up to the front of the schools and receive one breakfast and/or lunch per child 18 years and under
All meals are FREE to all children 18 and under

Just a reminder: please take all trash/empty boxes with you please. There was some left under the pantry on the ground today. Mt Olive Lutheran is kind enough to let us use their property for the pantry and we should never leave trash for them to clean up. Thanks!
