Thank You Shelter Home of the Foothills for taking on this important outreach in Catawba County...what an amazing staff.

đź”’ THE FINAL PIECE IS ALMOST READY... đź”’

September 1st, 2026 marks TWO YEARS since Shelter Home of the Foothills answered the call — stepping up to provide domestic violence, sexual assault, r**e crisis, and human trafficking services right here in Catawba County.

It has been a long, hard road. And every single mile was worth it.đź’ś

In just two years, we have stood beside more than 1,000 survivors from the Catawba County community — 1,000+ lives touched, 1,000+ stories of courage, 1,000+ reasons we refuse to stop.

But we've been holding a secret... 🤫When we took over, we inherited a time-worn facility — one that arrived later than promised and needed far more than a fresh coat of paint. So we rolled up our sleeves. Wall by wall. Room by room. Because survivors don't just deserve a roof — they deserve safety, dignity, privacy, and peace.

Every improvement we made was about one thing: creating a space where healing can actually begin. And now... the wait is almost over.

🏠✨🚨 A totally renovated, 22-BED EMERGENCY SHELTER — right here in Catawba County — is about to be revealed. 🚨

📅 Beginning TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, we'll be dropping MAJOR announcements right here on social media — important dates, big reveals, and the moment you've all been waiting for... our GRAND OPENING is closer than you think.

đź‘€You won't want to miss a single post.

đź””The best is yet to come. đź’ś

The United Way was excited to be part of today’s Summer Point-In-Time Count hosted by the Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) Homeless Response Team at the Hickory Soup Kitchen.
A dozen local nonprofits were part of a resource fair to share information about their agencies and programs. The United Way talked to individuals about NC 211 and the county-wide food resources list.
The summer PIT Count helps pinpoint needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
There will be several other local nonprofits helping with the count throughout this week – Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry, Strong Life Ministries, The Corner Table.
Branches of the Catawba County Library system along with the Hickory City Libraries are also participating in the count.
