Voices VOICES was born in 2016, and the power of the arts and the human voice continues to fuel the work of our team.

VOICES is on a mission to amplify voices in the Roaring Fork Valley, CO through the arts | VOICES tiene la misión de amplificar voces en el Valle de Roaring Fork a través de las artes. "I, who had been silent for over 50 years, began to see how important voice is."
15 years ago, our Founder and Board President, Barbara Reese, was introduced to poetry and it changed her life. She set out to create

an organization that would allow others in her community to explore their voices through not just poetry, but also dance, theatre, music, painting, drawing....all of the arts.

💫 Youth voices are powerful! 💫

We are incredibly honored to announce that VOICES has been awarded a generous grant from the Jonathan D. + Mark C. Lewis Foundation to grow our youth programming. This significant support will help us bring more voices of youth in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys to the forefront in fresh new ways.

As we look to the future, we see local youth involved in every aspect of our work. From onstage performances to after-school workshops to the creative pursuits of our Youth Springboard, we want to understand how our local young people wish to tell their stories and make their own mark on our beautiful, diverse community.

¡Qué hermoso festejo tuvimos ayer en el Crystal Theatre Alliance!

Estrenamos el mini documental del proyecto Hero’s Journaling / Diario del Héroe de los estudiantes de la Carbondale (Colorado) Middle School sobre la creación de su mural, que hoy puedes visitar al costado de la escuela.

Los y las estudiantes, acompañados de sus familias estuvieron presentes, y pudimos celebrar sus historias de resiliencia y su creatividad al lado de las maestras ✨️💎 G E M A R T 💎✨️ y Mary Hernández.

👏 Thank you to all of our community members who came out for the VOICES and Hero's Journaling Project mini-documentary premiere at the Crystal Theatre Alliance in Carbondale today!

Newly immigrant youth have stories, dreams, gifts, and memories that deserve to be recognized. This documentary directed by the talented Eric Tinajero features students from Carbondale Middle School who participated in our Hero's Journaling Project in-school program in spring 2026. Together they blended their stories to create a permanent mural at their school!

Many heartfelt thanks to our incredibly gifted teaching-artist and program director Gabriela E. Mejia aka GEMart for your work with the youth. Thank you to CMS teacher Mary Hernandez for championing this program and your students. And huge gratitude to the Crystal Theatre for hosting this screening!
