Our amazing friends doing great work in the Grand Teton National Park for little grizzly bear with their Karelian Bear dogs (KBDs). They still answered urgent messages for electrified bear deterrents.

Great work🫶🧮⚡️🔐🐻👏👏👏

Tips from our friends at the Nevada Department of Wildlife and BearWise, how to store trash correctly 🧮🔐🐻

☀️ Summer is almost officially here, and that means more people are heading outdoors to enjoy everything Nevada has to offer.

Whether you're spending the day at the beach, hiking your favorite trail, camping with family and friends, or simply enjoying time outside, make sure you're doing your part to be BearWise.

🐻 Secure dumpster lids and latches.
🐻 Use bear-resistant containers whenever available.
🐻 Never leave trash outside receptacles.
🐻 Keep campsites and picnic areas clean.

Trash attracts bears. Secure it every time.

Bears that gain access to human food and garbage can become food-conditioned, creating problems for both bears and people. Together, we can help keep bears wild and our communities safe.

🐻🔐 Bear Alert – Glenwood Residents 🔐🐻

Once again, early Monday morning, garbage was found scattered around the dumpster at a rental property on Blake Avenue.

The dumpster is equipped with bear-resistant hardware, but it only works when the lid is properly secured after every use.

We’ve contacted property management and hope additional measures can be taken. In the meantime, we’re asking everyone to do their part:

✅ Close the lid completely
✅ Secure the lock every time
✅ Remind neighbors and visitors

This area is a known bear hotspot, and it’s only June.

Bears should not be put at risk because of unsecured trash. Once bears learn that garbage is an easy food source, everyone loses.

You can make a difference—one locked dumpster at a time.

“We can appreciate the fact that there are bears that live here and we get to enjoy seeing them, hopefully at a safe distance. There’s this push to change the narrative a little bit when it comes to black bears, because there’s always been this narrative of ‘problem bear,’ ‘nuisance bear,’ and really it’s a human problem. Bears are just following their instincts and trying to find food, and they’re opportunistic and will go for whatever is easy. We can’t expect them to change. It’s on us.”

We received a call Saturday morning from a resident of Old Snowmass who reported that a bear had broken in and taken some food.
The family was understandably frightened. I explained to her that the bear now had a food reward and might come back.
Last night, we were able to install one of our electric bear deterrent mats on loan. CPW is aware of the situation.

Recently, local Colorado news headlines have often reported bears breaking into places or ending up where they shouldn’t be.

Everyone needs to be mindful and change their behavior during bear activity, especially since natural food sources are scarce.🧮🔐🐻
