We’re excited to announce the 2027 recipient of the 5Point & NRS Film Fund! This year’s grant goes to Preparations, a short documentary from kendiking and Miles [Too-Sahnt] Brewster] Brewster - produced by Trysto🎬 Kyra Calaway with impact producer Anne Marie McDaniel.
Preparations follows Geordan Colden, an Atlanta firefighter and the founder of ‘Drip No Drown’ - a mobile swim school teaching water safety to Black families - as he prepares his first-time swim students at Morehouse College for their inaugural competition, all while confronting his mother’s declining health and a legacy of generational illness in his community.
From Director, Kendi King: “Miles and I are beyond thrilled about this major vote of confidence from 5Point and NRS. As emerging filmmakers whose stories are rooted in community, we’re used to making films without any institutional or outside support. This grant came at a time when we needed it most, not only to bring this film to the finish line, but also to support the impact campaign we’re building.”
A huge thanks to NRS for their commitment to supporting adventure storytelling - this is their seventh straight year backing the film fund! Catch Preparations at the 2027 Flagship Festival.
