This Independence Day Weekend, we're reflecting on another kind of freedom: freedom from addiction, isolation, shame, and hopelessness.

Recovery is about so much more than stopping use. It’s about rebuilding relationships, rediscovering yourself, finding purpose, and creating a new life filled with joy, meaning, and connection.

But that doesn’t mean the road to long-term recovery is easy – and holidays can be especially challenging. Cookouts, parties and other summer gatherings often center around alcohol, making it important to have a plan for protecting your recovery and prioritizing your well-being.

Here are a few ways to support your sobriety this weekend:
🌻 Bring your favorite NA beverage to social events, even if you don't expect alcohol to be present
🌻 Plan a sober party or outdoor activity (hiking, biking, swimming) with supportive friends and family
🌻 Be prepared to say ‘No, thanks’ to alcoholic beverages or party invitations that might compromise your recovery, and don’t hesitate to ask ahead of time if alcohol or other substances will be present at gatherings.
🌻 Make time for recovery-supportive activities, whether that’s attending a meeting, texting or calling someone supportive of your recovery, or making time for journaling or meditation.
🌻 Avoid places and situations strongly associated with past substance use whenever possible.

This holiday weekend, we celebrate everyone who is working toward a healthier life in recovery, supporting a loved one in recovery, or works in the recovery space 💛

Wishing everyone a safe and healthy 4th of July!
