WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center WindWalkers ~ Where horses and caring professionals help families and individuals with challenges to grow and thrive!

WindWalkers is an equine assisted learning and therapy center with a family-centered approach. Our mission is to provide a variety of equine assisted therapies to aid in the development and growth of those with challenges, be they physical, neurological, emotional, behavioral or psychological. We provide therapeutic riding, beginner horsemanship and EAGALA, which targets mental health and human de

velopment needs. Our programs foster growth, learning and overall well-being taught by certified PATH Int’l instructors, qualified staff, dedicated volunteers, and an exceptional herd of horses. To accomplish our mission we rely on grants and contributions from individuals, local businesses and regional and national corporations.

Traditional therapy doesn’t work for everyone — and that’s exactly why WindWalkers exists. So grateful to be featured on and to share how our horses are changing lives right here in the Roaring Fork Valley. Huge shoutout to our new Executive Director, Ginger, for leading the way. The horse does not ask you to be okay.
It asks you to be present.
And in that presence, something remarkable happens.

For individuals living with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, paralysis, Down syndrome, and a wide range of physical disabilities — equine therapy offers something traditional rehabilitation often cannot. The rhythmic, three-dimensional movement of a horse at a walk so closely mirrors human gait that the body simply responds. Muscles activate. Posture lifts. Balance returns.

Research supports what our riders and families experience every day — improvements in muscle tone, core strength, coordination, range of motion, and independence in daily life. For some, it means taking steps they have never taken before. For others, it means taking them again.

This is not alternative medicine. This is evidence-based therapy delivered in partnership with one of the most intuitive healers on earth.

Every body deserves access to healing. And at WindWalkers, we believe the barn is one of the most powerful places that healing can begin.

What a wonderful time at the 9th Annual Colorado River BOCES ENC and Special Olympics Day! We had so much fun hosting a booth, seeing our WindWalkers riders, and connecting with so many fellow community partners who share our heart for encouragement, growth, and inclusion.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, said hello, and helped make the day so special. We love showing up for this community.

Windy is proud to be part of a community that comes together in gratitude for the freedoms we share and the people who have served to protect them.

At WindWalkers, we are honored to serve veterans through the healing connection of horses, and it is deeply meaningful to support those who have given so much for our country.
Today, we hold both community and national gratitude in our hearts.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we are reminded that mental health touches how we connect, cope, trust, heal, and grow.
At WindWalkers, we are proud to be a PATH Intl. Member Center, with PATH certified instructors and certified equine specialists who help hold our programs to the highest standards of safety, ethics, and care in equine-assisted services.
That commitment connects holistically to the work we do: creating a calm, supportive space where participants can build confidence, practice communication, feel grounded, and experience connection without judgment.

Mental health matters every day. At WindWalkers, healing, hope, and connection begin with a horse.

Equine therapy offers a healing pathway
beyond words, especially when stress,
trauma, grief, or overwhelm are hard to explain.

At WindWalkers, healing happens one connection at a time. Through the quiet wisdom of horses, participants build trust, confidence, emotional regulation, and a deeper sense of calm. Equine therapy supports mental health by helping people feel grounded, seen, and connected.

The Derby is two minutes of courage.
At WindWalkers, perseverance looks like showing up week after week, one ride, one breath, one tiny victory at a time.
From the “Run for the Roses” track to our arena in the Rockies, it’s all about hearts that refuse to quit—horses and humans alike, leaning into the next stride and the next chance to grow.
Every step in the arena is its own finish line: a little more balance, a little more confidence, a nervous system that feels just a little safer. That’s the kind of win we’re racing for.
