Great to have Downtown Colorado Inc. (DCI) in the building, talking about place-based economic development in Carbondale. Reminds us of the work and dialogue in the mid 2000s that got Third Street Center underway. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Legends of Mountain Fair was indeed special, and then some. It never ceases to amaze us how much Mountain Fair means to SO many people. We got to hear from Fair founders and lifetime contributors on its grassroots beginning. One of the biggest representing groups was people who worked the Fair in the 70s. Several people who have been to every single Fair- all 54 of them! The opportunity for these people to share their stories, wisdom, and relive the good ol’ days was tangible magic. Contagious laughter, and remembrance. A collective, and ongoing time capsule.

One thing that has stayed a constant through the changing of hands (and generations) is the spirit of volunteerism, and coming together. While Carbondale Arts holds the container for Mountain Fair, the community holds its heart. It was incredible to hear that sentiment again and again. In the words of Mark Taylor, Mountain Fair is a perfect example of “‘Community’ as a verb.”

Special shout out to our former captain and longest standing Fair director, Amy Kimberly for being the emcee and for sharing your love of the Fair as a pillar of Carbondale’s history.

Kudos to the current leadership team for not carrying the torch lightly, but wholeheartedly.

Thank you to Carbondale Historical Society for thinking of Mountain Fair as a part of your speaker series!

And THANK YOU to everyone who has poured heart and soul into this one-of-kind event. Then, now, and always 💓
