Journal 2 Journey Participants Colin Sherer and Kadija "K-Drizzy" Camara participated in REBEL VERSES this past weekend at The Public Theater.

REBEL VERSES is Developing Artists's youth artists festival in which the next generation of theater artists take the stage with their original work.

The festival brings together youth arts organizations from across the city to bring fearless original performances. It’s one of the few spaces in NYC where young artists challenge what’s happening around them, and create work that fights for the kind of world they want to live in.

Another one of these spaces is taking place this week at Hi-ARTS! Luminance: The Unearthing will feature work and performances by Sasha Bolkova, Kadija “K-Drizzy” Camara, Ligaya Cullom Kassidy Khuu, Hakimah Malam and Colin Sherer.

Don't miss these young artists shine on stage — May 14 + 15 at Hi-ARTS. Tickets start at only $5. Get yours today at the link in bio!

Last week, we gathered for a WORK IN PROCESS of America is in the Heart by CRITICAL BREAKS Artist Luz Lorenzana Twigg (.grigio). Through immersive, ritual-based theatre, audiences were brought into the lives and histories of Filipino American laborers navigating 1930s California.

Thank you to everyone who shared space with us and stepped fully into the experience with curiosity, care, and presence. 🤝🏽

Deep gratitude to performers Jose Andres Tapales Lopez (), alyxåndra ciale (), Claro de los Reyes (), and Jason Yanto (), whose performances carried us through the world of migrant laborers, organizers, and collective resistance. Shoutout to Allian Francisco for stepping in last minute!

Thank you to stage manager Vaishanavi Raul (), and to Yari Cervas () for the thoughtful direction and dramaturgy that helped bring this world to life.

And Luz—thank you for your vision, your writing, and your care in building this work alongside your collaborators. ❤️‍🔥

Want to keep exploring the work? Check out Digging Deeper, our new series of supplemental materials, to dive deeper into the histories and inspiration behind the project. LINK IN BIO!

About Journal 2 Journey

Developed in partnership with Urban Word NYC, Journal 2 Journey (J2J) is a pre-professional, creative youth development program designed designed to inspire young artists to imagine the possibilities of writing that expand beyond traditional forms, styles, and genres while providing a platform that celebrates their voices.

Through an accessible yet thoughtful application process, six youth participants, ages 16 to 20, are selected to participate in a paid 15-week intensive, where they will work collaboratively with professional theater artists to refine their writing skills and devise a professional one-act theatrical production.
