HCX is proud to shine a community spotlight on former Lakou NOU artist-in-residence Madjeen Isaac () and her new exhibit, “We Dream of Home,” which you can find on the Washington Ave side of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden ()! 🌺

The vibrant outdoor exhibit combines Madjeen’s memories of Haiti and her upbringing in Flatbush. It explores how “collective care, memory, and ecological knowledge are crucial to building a more just future.”

The next time you’re out near the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, take a moment and check out Madjeen’s work!

Traditional rhythms and sounds of Haiti meet “Rasin San Bout | Roots Without End” at HCX on Sunday, the 18th!

Since 2014, Fanmi Asòtò has celebrated and carried forward Haitian culture and heritage rooted in Voudou through drum performance, community workshops, and herbal teachings. Founded by Brooklyn-based cultural preservationist (and former HCX Lakou NOU resident!) and her husband, master drummer , Fanmi Asòtò is bringing the sounds that keep our roots alive to HCX!

Join us for this special performance as part of our current Vizyon Atistik exhibition “Rasin San Bout | Roots Without End.” It’ll be a celebration of cultural traditions, music, and Haitian heritage! 🇭🇹 RSVP at the link in bio.

A year ago today, Haiti Cultural Exchange planted new roots at a brand new location: 35 Lafayette Ave. In just 365 days, a lot has happened within these four walls, from community favorite programs like Mizik Ayiti! to special celebrations like World Cup watch parties that were filled with undeniably good energy. None of it would be possible without your support.

KRÉOL FEST is going down next weekend, and we’re excited to share more details about what’s on at HCX – swipe left to view the line-up!

🎨From 2:30-5 PM, drop in to visit , a Brooklyn-based visual artist (and past HCX Lakou NOU artist-in-residence!) for Reimagining Your Hood, a group collage workshop.

🍴From 5- 6:30 PM, food historian and chef dishes up a culinary arts demonstration and tasting served with a history lesson on the side.

💬From 6-7:30 PM, you’re invited to mix and mingle at HCX! This meet-and-greet is the perfect opportunity to meet and connect with KRÉOL FEST artists, vendors + festival-goers like yourself.
