As our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, may we remember our achievements while recognizing the critical work still being done to achieve true equality and a democracy that serves all. Happy Juneteenth! Today we honor this celebration of freedom and the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history. As we commemorate the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, we also reflect on the ongoing pursuit of equality, opportunity, and justice for all.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani + BKS = 2K for all! Had a very special visit from Mayor Mamdani at our Nat Azarow center this week to highlight his 2K for all initiative, launching in Brownsville! And of course to celebrate the Knicks historic win! 🎉

Mayor Mamdani’s 2K for All will help BKS provide access to high quality educational care for our Brownsville families. We are excited to have the opportunity to support all 2yo children with the same growth & development opportunities!

What a beautiful evening meeting new friends & sharing our BKS mission! On May 13th, our lovely 2026 Yuletide Co-chairs—Liz Alten, Laura Broderick, Tessa Chamberlain, Laura Trevelyan, and Maddie Whoriskey—hosted a wonderful group of friends interested in learning more about BKS, our kids and families, and the programs (and values) at the core of our work. We were delighted to be there and meet such a genuine group of individuals passionate about making a difference. Thank you to our co-chairs for hosting and to our board members who attended to bring these amazing women into the BKS circle.
