Employment opportunities begin with access, support, and the chance to build real-world skills.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we're proud to spotlight Ash & Co., a business that grew from the Vocational Lab at The Heartshare Education Center. Founded by Ashlly, whose passion for bracelet-making sparked the idea, what began as a personal creative outlet evolved into a thriving enterprise where students and adults develop workplace skills through hands-on experience in production, inventory, fulfillment, sales, and administration.

Today, Ash & Co. is creating opportunities, fostering independence, and showing what's possible when talent is nurtured and supported.

As we gear up for tonight's Dinner Dance, which celebrates Heartshare's residential programs for people with developmental disabilities, we're looking back at some of our favorite memories from previous years.💙

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we're spotlighting Heartshare's Vocational Lab!

In New York State, only about 37% of young adults with disabilities find jobs after school, while nearly 70% of their peers without disabilities are employed. Our one-of-a-kind, hands-on learning space at the Heartshare Education Center is designed to close that gap by giving students and adults the real-world life and job readiness skills they need to thrive.

On Saturday, we teamed up with NFL Alumni for a day of football, fun, and connection. NFL Alumni Niko Koutouvides and Tebucky Jones led drills and shared an unforgettable experience with Heartshare program participants from our foster care and developmental disabilities programs.

A huge thank you to NFL Alumni and our incredible volunteers at Xavierian Football for making this day so special. 🏈💙

Last week, a group from our PACT program for individuals on the autism spectrum attended an incredible outing at the Bronx Zoo, hosted by All Boro. It was day filled with exploration and fun!🐐🦏

Heartshare’s inaugural Legacy Luncheon brought together past Youth of the Year honorees and our 2026 Youth of the Year, Irianna Reece, to celebrate their accomplishments and the people who believed in them along the way.

Every young person in our American Dream Program carries forward the legacy of those who invested in their potential, encouraged their dreams, and helped them imagine what was possible. At the luncheon, we celebrated that legacy and the young people who are now creating one of their own.

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in the potential of the young people we support. Give some love to this post to congratulate Irianna and celebrate all that lies ahead for her!

Today we’re looking back on one of our favorite summer traditions: Heartshare’s annual Union Turnpike Day Hab Carnival! Featuring food, music, and plenty of games, the celebration is one of the many ways we create safe, welcoming spaces where everyone can join in the fun.

A big thank you to the Heartshare team members and other volunteers who gave their time and energy to make the day possible. 💙
