The Child and Family Guidance Center Giving children & families the tools and support to heal from trauma and build brighter futures.

The mission of The Child & Family Guidance Center is to provide culturally responsive mental health services and complementary supports to children, teenagers, and their families, regardless of their ability to pay. It was wonderful to greet Senator Chris Murphy as he completed his 2026 Walk Across Connecticut at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport!

Isabel Gonzalez and Noel Bernard represented CFGC and thanked Senator Murphy for his support. We are deeply grateful to Senator Murphy, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Senator Richard Blumenthal for submitting CFGC’s proposal for consideration. This potential funding would help CFGC better meet the mental health and social service needs of the Greater Bridgeport community.

Thank you, Senators Murphy and Blumenthal, for your commitment to Connecticut’s children and families!

💛 September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month 💛

No one deserves to face their struggles alone. Our team provides affordable, accessible therapy for individuals and families in our community, offering a safe space to heal and find hope.

Together, we can break the stigma, support one another, and remind every person: your life matters.

📞 If you're in CT, call 211 if you or someone you know is in a crisis, and our Mobile Crisis Intervention Services (MCIS) team can be there to help.

Congratulations to our Board Chair, Selectman Nick D’Addario, who has been named the 2027 Barnum Festival Ringmaster! 🎪

With his theme, “A New Generation of Community Leadership,” Nick continues a long family tradition of service to Greater Bridgeport and reflects a commitment we share at CFGC: strengthening Greater Bridgeport by investing in its children, families, and future leaders while encouraging the next generation to get involved and give back.

We’re proud to see Nick carry this tradition forward and continue his service to our community.

Yesterday, CFGC’s Care Coordination team hosted a Back-to-School & Respite Event for families, sharing back-to-school guidance with parents while children received backpacks and school supplies, played games, and enjoyed ice cream. 🎒🍦

Supporting children’s mental health means looking at the whole picture, including the emotional, behavioral, physical, and essential needs that help families succeed. Our bilingual support workers were also present to support families who communicate only in Spanish and ensure they had full access to the day’s resources.

Thank you to Care Coordination Director Xiomara Lopez and her team for facilitating an event that reflects our mission to help all children and families throughout Fairfield County thrive.

Today, we remember Dolly Parton for the care she showed children throughout her life.

Through the Imagination Library and her support for education and pediatric health, she helped provide children with greater access to books, opportunities, and care.

That spirit connects closely with our mission at CFGC: supporting the whole child and helping families build healthier, brighter futures.

Her generosity leaves a lasting legacy. 💙

Thank you to John Skelly for his generous donation to our Community Support for Families (CSF) program, which provided back-to-school supplies for its participants. 🎒

Donors to CSF help families meet everyday needs that can make a real difference in a child’s well-being, from utility bills and baby supplies to holiday meals and school supplies. Lizette Ortiz-Nash, CSF Program Director, will distribute these backpacks to families all throughout Fairfield County, helping children start the school year with the supplies they need to learn, participate, and feel prepared.

By helping families meet practical needs, CSF gives parents greater stability and helps children stay connected to school, home, and their community. This support plays an important role in helping families thrive.

Thank you, John, for continuing to support the families we serve through CSF. 💙

Meet Biscuit, the newest addition to CFGC’s Outpatient Department! 🐾

We are excited to introduce Animal-Assisted Therapy as another compassionate way to support children and families in treatment. Alongside his handler, Jonathan, Biscuit can help create a calming and welcoming environment where children feel more comfortable building trust, expressing themselves, and participating in therapy.

Thank you to Pet Partners for their partnership in bringing Jonathan and Biscuit to us. And a special thank you to Jonathan Spears, Senior Clinical Supervisor, for spearheading this initiative and helping to bring this meaningful therapeutic resource to our agency.

Welcome to CFGC, Biscuit! 🐶💙

We’re making mental health care part of the conversation, because asking for help isn’t a weakness. It’s a power move.

Kinda chic, if you ask us.

Thank you to our Board Members Dr. Magna Dias, Lourdes Delgado, and Dr. Elizabeth Rodriguez, DNP, MSN, MPH, RN for your continued support of children's mental health!
