In partnership, City Lights Gallery & the Bridgeport Arts & Cultural Council are seeking art for this powerful and deeply relevant summer exhibition at City Lights Gallery. "Broken But Beautiful: Youth Beneath Capitalism".

This show explores the emotional realities of growing up in a world shaped by pressure, survival, expectation, and uncertainty, while still finding ways to dream, create, resist, and remain beautiful through it all.

We are looking for visual artists of all backgrounds and ages whose work speaks to identity, resilience, memory, struggle, healing, protest, community, or hope through the lens of youth experience. We have all been young.

Whether your work is raw, reflective, political, personal, experimental, or uplifting, we want to see it. •Youth voices matter •Art can tell the truth.

🌈 City Lights Gallery invites LGBTQ+ artists and allies to submit art for “OUTwork,” a yearly exhibit that launches during Greater Bridgeport Pride in June. The deadline for submission is May 12, 2026.

OUTwork explores issues of gender, LGBTQ life, love and relationships, family, social justice, bias, personal stories and perspectives, pride, current issues of 2026, etc. Artists need not be gay, le***an, nonbinary, or transgender to participate. Allies are welcome. The intention is to support the greatest possible inclusion and to create a platform for people of diverse backgrounds to meet and exchange ideas and want to express their support and respect.

SEND SUBMISSIONS IN JPEG FORMAT, (no more than 8 images), 72 DPI, DUE BY MAY 12 to: [email protected]

NECESSARY INFO TO INCLUDE WITH SUBMISSION: Brief artist’s statement, itemized list of art submitted should include: title, size, medium, price of work, Works not for sale should include a value rather than a price. Also include artist’s contact info: name, email, phone (evening and daytime numbers), mailing address and website if available. There is no size limit to the dimension of art submitted, however larger works, over 60″ will be subject to space limitations.

City Lights is a nonprofit arts organization located in downtown Bridgeport, CT that serves the community through art, easily accessible by Metro-North, Port Jeff Ferry, I-95 and the Merritt Parkway via the Route 25 Connector

“What’s in a word?” What is the impact of an utterance, a sound rife with cultural interpretation? For this exhibit at City Lights Gallery artists are asked to submit work responding to the concept of these 2 words that sound the same, spelt differently and have different meanings. Among the range of social and cultural interpretations (but not limited to) are body image, oversized fashion and popular culture, imagery, spoken word, music, socio-economic status, positive and negative affirmation.

This Saturday 2 exhibit openings in downtown Bridgeport, CiTY LiGhTs Gallery, Ursa Gallery.

Two stunning exhibits worth confronting the cold are on view at City Lights Gallery and Ursa Galler/Coffee Roasters café in downtown Bridgeport through mid-March 2026. Both exhibits explore context and counterpoint, presenting 2 iconic artists of the regional art scene and beyond, known for recognizable imagery, unique form and persona, Ibo Mandingo and Frank Foster Post.
